It's a DAMN good record..can you dig it...anything with Ted Nugent is worth buying..

From: Chris Date: September 29, 2001 at 13:23
It gets no better than this for 80's metal fans. 'High Enough', 'Coming Of Age', 'Bad Reputation', and 'Damn Yankees' are all classics. Between Tommy Shaw of Styx fame and Ted Nugent on guitars, it gets no better than this. Get it if you don't already have it.

From: LA Cute Boyzuxo Date: October 9, 2001 at 19:58
Good Sleaze Glam album. But 'High Enough' seems to be an another band's song; really fantastic!

From: SHAG Date: March 14, 2002 at 10:28
Sleaze Glam??? What the hell has that moron been snorting? These guys are an excellent example of great driving hard rock!! This album has it's moments. On a few songs, I think Ted Nugent had a writers block and had to use the exact riff!! Other than that, this albums not bad!! It's definitely NOT Sleaze Glam!!!!!!!!

From: tred Date: May 18, 2002 at 10:45
this is a really hard rock classic ,the sound seems like styx at times .buy or die!!!!

From: Desslar Date: May 18, 2002 at 15:42
Great album, with a good balance of melody and hard driving rock. Thankfully it sounds nothing like Styx or Night Ranger. What happened to that lost third album?

From: jason Date: May 19, 2002 at 15:38
I think the third album became 'Shaw/Blades-Hallucination.' It came out in 1995. Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw made this album without Ted. Did you also know that Shaw & Blades wrote the two big hits (if you want to call them that) on Vince Neil's 'Exposed' album? If it wasn't for them we might not have ever heard of that one. The songs were 'Sister of Pain' & 'You're Invited.'

From: Dan Date: May 19, 2002 at 15:49
Eek! Make no connection between DY and that aural abomination known as 'Shaw/Blades' *spit*. I'm sure Ted would want to distance himself as far away as humanly possible from that festering pile of 'Tom Petty wannabe' excrement. With over 4000 CDs in my collection, I *never* get rid of an AOR or hard rock CD, *especially* if it involves one of the genres greats... I made an exception in this case. I owned it for 3 days, then promptly ditched it, chalking up having owned it as a 'Hallucination'.

From: TIM Date: May 19, 2002 at 15:55
Thanks for the info jason, those were my 2 fav's.

From: jason Date: May 19, 2002 at 16:11
Now wait a minute Dan. Remember, if it wasn't for Shaw/Blades than Ted would still be without a #1 hit. The song was 'high Enough' and before that Nugent had no #1 hits in his life. So he doesn't want to distance him self too far.

From: Desslar Date: May 21, 2002 at 16:01
There was a third Damn Yankees album recorded in about 2000 but never released due to some problems with the label or producer. Anyone know if it'll ever see the light of day?

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: September 28, 2002 at 17:20
Tipico disco de Hard Americano de la 'poca, de gran gancho comercial, como la balada High Enough, realmente buena.VALE LA PENA.

From: James Date: October 20, 2002 at 10:21
I admitt it. I hated Shaw Blades when i first got it. Put it away for a long time. Now my Cassette is messed up but i'm looking to find a copy on cd. I guess i'm one of the few who actually had it to grow in them. I can't lisetn to it over and over but once in a while is ok. I have to take it for what it is, and that is nothing to do with Styx, Night Ranger or Damn Yankees.

From: The Fizzy One Date: October 20, 2002 at 22:11
Terrible Ted's excellent axe-wielding tctually takes a backseat to the harmonies of Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw. Great stuff, and many songs bring back bittersweet memories from my misspent youth. Interesting sidenote: a friend of mine, an 18-year-old girl (I'm 22) is woefully ignorant of most all hard rock, barely knows who Guns n' ROses are/were. But I played her 'Damn Yankees,' and she lit right up. She knew it from themovie Gremlins 2. The Fizz Picks: 1, 4, 5, 6, 10.

From: robert Date: November 1, 2002 at 15:18
Buen disco , pero me quedo con el 1'

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: November 17, 2002 at 0:37
Highly charismatic, eclectic, one-of-a-kind individuals who define the genre in their own special way. Ted Nugent is one of those characters. His awsome talent on the guitar, relentless love of man and beast(yeah, he loves the beasts--than he kills'em and eat'em HE! HE! HE!)and his sheer passion for metal have qualified him for the hard rock hall of fame years before retirement!!! This album absolutely shines with axedriven, steel-powered energy. And what a bizarre outfit 'Damn Yankees' is.

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: November 17, 2002 at 0:52
What saves 'Damn Yankees' from being a metal freak show is the fact that 'Blades' and 'Shaw' can still crank out the melodies, and no one's gonna dare throw a stone Ted's way--he might just pull out his bow and hunt ya down!!! This CD is brimming with balls-out tunes but 'Pile Driver' is definatily the song that slays an S&M power-speed-metal balled featuring Ted on vocals. This just may be the quintessential 'Ted Nugent' love song.(SO GOOD, IT HURTS!!!) Pick this on up... or else!!!

From: Hollywood Dream Date: November 18, 2002 at 14:47
I agree with some pals above that said this band's sleaze glam... a classic sleaze band i'd say.

From: Tony Date: November 18, 2002 at 19:16
For 1990 ecspecially a great combination of melodic hard rock and metal. I remember working in a record store at the time and we couldn't keep this in stock when 'High Enough' blew up. It was a great combination of not being too melodic for the hard rock kids and nit being too metal for the AOR group. Hasn't stood the test of time for me as much as their second one 'Don't Tread' but still should be a staple in anyone's melodic rock collection. Great harmony vocals!!

I was flipping through the used CDs at a local shop and listening to the kid next to me in the Korn shirt have a discussion with his friend who was wearing a Metallica shirt. They picked up a used copy of this CD and laughed. The kid in the Korn shirt said of Ted Nugent, who is simply wearing jeans and a white t-shirt, 'ah, he's just trying to copy Metallica when they were an 80's band.' Shows how ignorant the trend following kids are today that they don't even know the roots of their own music.

From: jim Date: August 23, 2003 at 0:22
anyone know who sings lead vocals on all tracks on both damn yankees albums?

From: Scandinavia Date: August 24, 2003 at 5:56
Thought it had the same singer?? Occasionally you hear Nugent's screams as far as I recall....By the way, I just started playing the track ROCK CITY with my band...Man, that track rules!

From: James Date: August 24, 2003 at 9:41
A trained ear ( I a big fan of both Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades ) I can tell who sings which song when i hear them and they sing a lot together. Tommy has a smoother, higher pitch voice while Jack has much of the same qualities as Tommy but is slightly different in tone and texture and doesn't go as high. Coming Of Age is mostly a Jack song and Come Again is mostly a Tommy song. If you can find the video from the Don't Tread tour you will be able to see then pick them out on each song.

From: pablo Date: September 6, 2003 at 8:13
Clasico del Hard Rock USA ,este es un cd muy mel'dico y comercial en donde la producci'n de Ron Nevison alcanza un nivel sublime, imprescindible

From: visitor Date: October 1, 2003 at 15:15
I've only heard 'Piledriver' on radio, and it's one great damn angry energetic song! I'd buy the whole record if I found it.

From: James Date: October 4, 2003 at 17:06
if you buy the cd for Piledriver please don't expect the whole cd to sound like that. That has Ted written all over it. the other songs have the Tommy/Jack thing going on

From: keebler Date: October 7, 2003 at 23:17
i love this cd and ilove the band i wish they were still putting out cd's this is classic.

From: Date: February 5, 2004 at 12:58
Muy bueno en su honda...a lo Night Ranger del que Blades fue cantante.Por cierto su trabajo como cantante en solitario da pena.Si alguien quiere cambiar CD que escriba a pardao27@hotmail.com

From: dave Date: May 11, 2004 at 17:34
Even through I hardly listen to this at all anymore, this is a great rock record. These guys were great live. They pulled ted off the stage while he was still playing at the end of the show, when I saw them. Absolutley every song rocks and is great especialy come again. rock city and piledriver. If you love this type music, you are guarnteed to love this disc! Could not recomend this more.

Sorry about that forgot a coma. Alias 2nd album, Dangerous Toys. I'm looking for mp3's

Maybe one of the best of all time...a masterpiece!

From: AlmirfromBrazil Date: May 28, 2004 at 23:28
And I remember seen these guys along with Bad Company in the Garden State Arts Center, NJ in 1990 when I lived in US. Simply unforgetable, with Ted with his bow and arrow shooting on an image of Sadam Hussein and the crowd going nuts. What a good time...

From: Big Papa K Date: June 13, 2004 at 0:06
Another supergroup, but unlike Contraband for example, Damn Yankees bothered to write some good tunes. More of an album for Night Ranger fans than Ten Nugent or Styx. In fact, the worst song on this album would have to be Nugent's 'Piledriver'. But at least that comes at the end. I had read that Rik Emmett was originally the guitarist. Now that would be a great combination. 7/10

I'm really curious, Big Papa K. What are your favorites in the Rock Dept.?

From: Big Papa K Date: June 19, 2004 at 0:55
AlmirfromBrazil, my favorite rock bands in the genres covered on these pages are Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Skid Row, and Def Leppard. I tend to go for the heavier side of melodic rock, but I do appreciate certain lighter albums (1st side of King Kobra 'Thrill of a Lifetime' for one example). I am just trying to give some better ideas of the album in my reviews, as there tends to be just a lot reviews that only say kick ass 10/10 and that is it.

From: Joan Date: July 26, 2004 at 18:38
Me gustan todas las canciones, 'High enough', 'runaway', 'mistify', 'tell me how you want it'... Brutal!

From: JOHN NORUM Date: August 2, 2004 at 4:52
High Enough is one of the best song I've ever heard. BIG RESPECT

From: Rock On!! Date: October 29, 2004 at 23:02
Great album!! My fav tracks on this one are 'Coming of age','bad reputatuon','Runaway','Damn Yankees' & 'Rock City'. escpecially 'coming of age'....i cant seem to get enuff of it!! the other tracks are also good....the only one i don't like is 'Mystified'..it doesnt do much for me.

From: Deadly Tedly Date: February 10, 2005 at 22:53
Actually Big Papa K... Uncle Ted actually formed the group. He called Tommy Shaw and they did some 4 track recording and they both liked what they heard. Ted & Tommy were mulling over bass players and gave Jack Blades a call. Blades flew out to Ted's house here in Michigan and the three jammed out. Ted already knew the 'powerhouse slammer from the depths of Cleveland' Michael Cartellone. The rest....is history.

From: Geoff Date: March 2, 2005 at 5:59
Don't think many will agree with me here, but to me this is very average hard rock. The first track is decent, and 'High enough' is really quite a lovely ballad, but for me the rest went in one ear and out the other. Not a fave at all.

From: StarCity Rocker Date: March 9, 2005 at 7:24
I really enjoyed this album, and remember thinking it was cool that these guys did not jump on the 'hair metal' bandwagon and try to compete that way. I believe they all stuck to their old-school guns and came up with some solid hard rock. 'Coming of Age' and 'Mystified' fell a little flat for me, but the rest of the album was consistent and well-written. Nothing wrong with this one at all.

From: Aussie Dave Date: March 23, 2005 at 15:34
A fantastic album from this supergroup that spawned the massive hit ballad High Enough. Perfect harmonies and a pretty solid performance on guitar from Ted Nugent, makes this a must for all hard rock/AOR fans. I think the next album Dont Tread was equally as good, and unfortunately this band's third release never made the light of day. Never mind, put this album on and i guarantee a smile will be on your dial the whole way through!!! 9.5/10....

From: cort Date: April 9, 2005 at 14:27
This album to me has some great songs but then it's got some I can't stand!I still think it's worth the cash and time cause of the songs,'Coming of age',the ubiqitous'High Enough'(even though somewhat overplayed)the extremely underrated songs'Runaway' and 'Damn Yankees'.'Come Again' is'nt 2 bad either!By the way the Damn Yank's version of Runaway is ten times better than Bon Jovi's Runaway!!!!!

From: PAUL Date: September 14, 2005 at 18:02
WHAT AN ALBUM!!!!!!!!rockers,hardrockers,aorsters,glamsters,only two words:BUY IT!!!!!!What will you find here?Everything.Burner tracks,ballads,keys,melodic solos,great vocals,even country sound(mystified)....four musicians-four geniuses,don't miss it.If you love it ,check also Ted's 'penetrator'

From: headbanger4life Date: January 19, 2006 at 4:15
Now this is an All-Star project that lived up to it's hype (IMO). I'm big fan of Ted Nugents (being a fellow Michigan resident), Night Ranger and Styx. Here we get them all combined into one. Great rockers and sweet ballads. Wish they'd make another album.

From: briscoe1 Date: July 5, 2006 at 14:20
A must have for any collection. I wore my cassette of this out. Still a good listen today.

From: Metalmusicman Date: January 7, 2007 at 14:56
Excellent all star project that actually wrote good songs. Taking elements from all of the bands represented and coming up with something new and refreshing. Incrediblly melodic, but with a distinct guitar edge. Massive hooks and powerhouse vocals lead the way on killer tracks like 'Coming Of Age', 'High Enough', and 'Come Again', but it is the guitar driven 'Piledriver' that steals the show and closes the disc very nicely. Great, but some what inconsistant album. Still very recomended!

From: metalmaniac777 Date: March 12, 2007 at 23:21
This is a damn good hard rock CD, though not quite the masterpiece some claim it is. Still, all you really need to know is that it's Ted Nugent on guitars, and that guy is so good, he could play 'Yankee Doodle' and make it sound badass. But this has more than just Ted's guitars going for it, it also has some killer hooks, catchy choruses, and lots of layered harmony vox to give it that melodic edge. Put this one in your stereo and you definitely won't feel the need to yank it out anytime soon.

From: dafoe21 Date: May 11, 2007 at 21:16
Saw Jack & Tommy this year and they were great!! Come Again brought down the house. Runaway, High Enough, Bad Reputation and Damn Yankees all rock!! I like this CD a little better than the 2nd.

From: Remastered Reason Date: November 4, 2008 at 20:29
When this disc first came out, I thought it was a little soft, especially for Uncle Ted. Fortunately, i had the chance to see them live & the show ripped. Their sound was huge & energetic. They played Styx, Night Ranger, & old Nuge tunes not to mention the Damn Yankees material. Needless to say, my opinion changed.

From: rockhardrock Date: May 28, 2009 at 17:01
this supergroup has made only 2 albums and both are great. i preffer their debut cause it has more gems than their follow up. they can rock hard and make you cry when you listen to ballads. my favs: Coming of Age, Runaway, High Enough and Come Again

From: edwithmj Date: October 7, 2010 at 18:19
Tell Me How You Want It, Runaway, Coming Of Age and of course High Enough are my favourites. Lovely album.

From: DanDare Date: October 23, 2010 at 8:02
An excellent hard rock album and I'm not given to this sort of thing at all. 'Coming of Age' and 'High Enough' stand out and the others all chug along nicely neither offending or over-exciting. I always felt that Ted stance on the cover kind of summed up the album.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: October 25, 2010 at 10:51
I always liked this disc a lot. The melodies and harmonies are impeccable, and Uncle Ted knows when to be tasteful ad when to let it rip. There are ea couple of weak tracks toward the end, but the rest more than makes up for it. You get the AOR-ish "Coming Of Age" and "Runaway," the funky "Mystified," the angry "Damn Yankees," and the rip-fest that is "Piledriver." "Come Again" is the epic of the disc, and I've always felt "High Enough" was one of the best ballads of the time, and has aged better than many others. Damn good disc!

From: 123charpenay Date: May 21, 2013 at 12:12
a super record from a super group.this band is a dream team.ok nevertheless two fillers track 5 and 10,but the rest wow it s super class hard u s with little touches of southern rock.this album is varied with some beautiful and epic ballads.it s a classic record of american hard rock.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 4, 2014 at 18:58
Great debut!!!..."High Enough" was the mid tempo hit single of it...many persons thought of them as the "next big mega group" but shamely only 2 albums were recorded ...tracks 3,6,7,8 & 9 are also good rocking cuts appealing to any self respected commercial hard rock fan.91/100

From: hair metal again Date: October 24, 2014 at 11:47
this was meant to be big and it did in a very convincing way!DAMN YANKEES is a super band that was made fo its members to get a piece of the pie:the hair metal movement was on top of the world and everybody jumped on it!Ron Nevison s production is awesome ,the band is made of shining stars and the result was blowmindin:explosive commercial hard rock at its best,a true celebration of the genre!

From: SgtRock Date: May 15, 2023 at 12:52
Damn near perfect! I used to frequent a rock pub in Osnabruck, Germany, owned by Jaded Heart drummer Axel Kruse, called LA Rocks...he played the shit it of this album most nights. This album still sounds as good today as it did then. Pure class and the best thing from any band...they ever recorded!
