THRESHOLD IS THE KIND OF BAND THAT ALL EXPECTATIONS AROUND THEM ARE ALWAYS REACHED AND THIS CD ONCE AGAIN PROVES THAT . THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PROG METAL BAND NOWADAYS. JUST LISTEN TO THE FIRST TRACK " PHENOMENON" AND YOU WILL SEE THE HOW GOOD THEY ARE. EXCELLENT . 10/10

From: Rycheage Date: June 11, 2003 at 2:26
The crunching guitars, the melodies, the massive keyboards, and the soaring vocals of Mac make this an instant winner among Threshold fans, although the consensus is that musically this is not as heavy as Hypothetical and I will agree with that. The songs on Critical Mass seem more emotional, more personal than on previous outings, with a lot more ballads and less of the heavier material Threshold is known for.

From: Hrudet Date: September 6, 2003 at 20:12
Threshold can write a good hook without making their songs sound too commercial pop-oriented. This disc once again displays their versatility. Those who enjoyed "Hypothetical" will not be disappointed with "Critical Mass." It is a 'critical' must-add for your collection.

What a band.Possibly the best talent to come out in years.

Recently was able to find the critical mass dvd that is playable in the states, and I must say I wasnt disappointed at all. It appears to be performed in a small pub but the sound is right on the money. So good cranked up my cat likes it.

Hey Knuckles-the sound on the DVD was redone in the studio due to Andrew having voice problems. Look at the first 3 tracks it is out of synch. Great band though.

The limited edition contains a track called Do Unto Them, which sticks in your mind after the first listen -- very impressive number...

From: Lennie Date: March 2, 2007 at 6:40
Another great release! Songs not quite as instant as on the magnificent 'Hypothetical', but it must be said that 'Critical Mass pts 1-3' is an absolute monster of a song. The 'Floydesque' guitar solo in the middle never fails to send a shiver. Also love the first track..more straight metal than prog. There are also softer touches as well like the great ballad Avalon..also 'Echoes of Life' is just a joy to listen to. Recommended. 9/10.

A true progressive metal masterpiece. In a lot of cases progressive metal songs aren't accessible, but this time, as this album is filled with catchy songs with huge melodic hooks and deep, thoughtful lyrics and they are performed by world class musicians, and Andrew McDermott was one of the best metal singers of all time, R.I.P. If you haven't heard of this album and think you know something about progressive metal, shame on you, you're so wrong.
