One of the best bands I have ever heard. Has a Poison meets Hot Boy sound with a hint of Noize Toys. Every damn track is awesome. Radio is probably my favorite rocker, but the ballads remind me of Lou Gramm with hints of other aor kings. I don't have enough room here to heap enough praise on this one. Has a nice glam/ rock combo and some aor thrown in.

Here is the all time great hard rock album, and the single most favorite in my collection, maybe along with Mass. Here's the deal. Nuno bettencourt had a band called SINFUL. contact me if you have that tape. He split and this band picks up the godly guitar playing of the ever incredible STEPHEN SHAW. They all lived in Milford, MA (or near by), and they rocked us at the music nook, and the high school, with bands like Bang and Skin Tite. read on ... more posted

From: joedolan Date: April 3, 2003 at 0:53
So they went on to Buffalo, NY and made this awesome album on sweettooth records. Ever been to Buffalo with the pink and blue lights down by the bus station? Very fitting - and with some lick, i understand, they get some shows opening for def leppard. NICE! Must have blown def leppard away. Notice the name Jeff Powell, his brother was in bands with the little brothers of Extreme, like flesh and Atunga! Massachusetts metal is simply the best! no debate .... read on, there's more

From: joedolan Date: April 3, 2003 at 0:55
years later, after the band breaks up, a local guy gets me a chance to play for the remaining members of the band, they are reforming and going back to buffalo. It was unsuccessful to say the least, they weren't all too serious and i was in outta bounds, (with slaughter, kix and winger), and stayed there. NOW GET THIS - on some demos i have stumbled across are songs for a supposed second disc, but the real clincher is ..... read on now

STEPHEN SHAW puts together a band called BITTERSUITE. You think rock candy was great - you need to hear the bittersuite stuff. The best solo playing you ever heard, taste-style and class, is by Stephen Shaw, now in Framingham, MA i think. He was the teacher of one of my old guitarists, DAN BRADY, the worlds second greatest soloist, better than david gilmour, check out airborne to see! If you ever read this Steve, e-mail me. I am your next bassist. you are my hero, joedolan@charter.com

From: joedolan Date: April 3, 2003 at 1:00
and if you can see by my insanity for this disc, you should pay whatever price you have to in order to obtain it.

i RETRACT THAT - it's joedolan@charter.net - please get it right

I don't know about you, but I liked the drums too. These guys are awesome!

From: David Date: April 3, 2003 at 1:41
Alright TIM, your next challenge is to find the Bittersuite stuff.

Hey Joedolan....did you ever hear the unreleased demos ROCK CANDY did? Some very cool stuff...Daddy's Little Girl, & the ballad 'The way it used to be' are very cool.....7 tracks total... Randy

From: TheRipper Date: April 8, 2003 at 1:14
Ah, I finally got a chance to hear all of these guys 17 tracks (including the demos) and this release is a great one. There are so many pieces out there that get overlooked because they are so unknown when they are in fact just as good and better than so many hyped ones (because more people know about them for whatever reason)... I hear parts of Noize Toys and Chalet here (Another Awesome band that nobody knows about). This release starts off very strong and gets a tad weaker throughout but is

From: TheRipper Date: April 8, 2003 at 1:22
still stronger than many other efforts, thus it's a pretty consistent release. My only complaints are that the title track is probably the weakest on here, and I'm not crazy about the ballad 'Ball & Chain' on here (it's okay, growing on me) and that some of the demos I have are better than some that made the cut for this (aside from the production); like 'Wild Ones' for one. This group should have stuck to that uptempo Melodic Glam AOR style that the first 4 or so songs showcase so greatly.

From: TIM Date: April 8, 2003 at 1:26
I know of Chalet. Just never heard them.

From: TheRipper Date: April 8, 2003 at 1:32
These GUYS do show flashes of GREATNESS and made me a believer. The Singer is great and they have some thoughtful lyrics that pull you in to the better songs' sheer catchiness (which is pretty often). Now all that needs to be done is to have someone remaster and release this baby (maybe all 17, that would be great) and give it it's rightful CD release as I've seen/heard way less talent get the chance at; say like MetalMayhem when they release unknown bands stuff that never put out a CD, COMMON!

From: TheRipper Date: April 8, 2003 at 1:41
Tim, you like this? And I know you do... You'd love Chalet then, ridiculously similar to me, neck and neck as far as who is better, etc. The singer, the style, the catchiness it's all there, both are Great and easily get the perfect score in my book, a 10. Now if these 17 tracks got a release, I think we should all agree to buy some copies of it, cuz it's just that good and to be frankly honest have heard people (whether they like AOR, Glam, Metal, Whatever) all praise it, it's really that GOOD.

From: David Date: April 8, 2003 at 2:57
JOEDOLAN, What IRC server are you using? because without that I can't find the hard rock saloon chat room?????

From: Rick Date: April 8, 2003 at 9:52
David, connect to Undernet and search for mp3. It will build a list of mp3 channels. Go in to Hardrocksaloon and you'll find Joe. Have fun.

From: Jayglam Date: April 9, 2003 at 5:45
I received this CD and could not believe how great this band was and there songwriting. One of those few CDs where every song is killer. The closing track come on come on is huge. 10 out of 10. jay from australia.

From: joe dolan Date: April 15, 2003 at 17:58
i talked to perris records, and they'd love to hear it, i've been busting my nuts off to get a hold of anyone in the band, of course, in ten years, they have all moved. Anyone who can help, e-mail me. JoeDolan@charter.net lets get this out there people - STAT! (did i sound like i was on E.R.? heh

From: TIM Date: April 25, 2003 at 6:30
I agree Jayglam, Come On, Come On is awesome! I like all of these tunes as you said. Someone in France call up Axe Killer and get this reissued.

Hi There, Metal Mayhem had contact witht he singer of RC years ago but he wont release anything with out tons of money which of course wont happen in ths day and age. it has been tried. He also claimed to have recorded a full album with nuno that will never see the light of day. mike i have a mac so these download rooms etc are tough to get in to. If anyone has really good quality Rock candy demos i would love them. Mine are soso but i love the tracks. mmburr@netsync.net

From: TIM Date: May 3, 2003 at 5:41
No. Vince was in the Crue in 1987. Totally different band.

hi all, has anyone ever noticed how good music brings good people together. THANKS TO HEAVY HARMONIES!!! Still, after talking with Mike this week, (see above), I realized that Jose Anes is an ass and Stephen Shaw really was Rock Candy. Got some trades I haven't got? check it out on www.cdrtrader.cjb.net - sorry about the pop-ups, the hosting is free ya know. I'll send the 17 RC tracks and the 21 Bittersuite tracks to anyone - (FREE JOSE - F'N FREE!!!) - out

From: joe dolan Date: May 3, 2003 at 12:23
I'll even include the crappy quality Vince Neil tracks from his band called Rock Candy if you want them.

From: TIM Date: May 3, 2003 at 16:05
I agree Joe- everybody ought to have this. I don't know about Jose though. Record companies are notorious for screwing bands over so maybe Jose is just holding his ground. If it's realesed and he gets nothing and the label makes millions I wouldn't be happy either. I don't know...that may not be the case. Hopefully something comes around eventually. I don't know what amount they wanted to sign for but if I had the funds, I'd consider it a no risk situation. How they didn't take the risk when thi

From: TIM Date: May 3, 2003 at 16:16
Make that released. Cont'd: How they didn't take the chance when this originally came out was utter stupidity. I know a lot of fans feel that they should just release the album because they enjoy the album but care less if the band gets their due. I'd give them more than other bands to start out with because they just plain kick their ass. This beats the ever-living hell out of anything MetalMayhem has to offer. I think he ought to reconsider.

From: TIM Date: May 3, 2003 at 17:50
Hey Joe, I don't know how tough it would be to contact 'Axe Killer' in France but it would be worth a shot.

From: TIM Date: May 8, 2003 at 13:34
I was just informed that Axe Killer went out of business a year ago. That sucks!

From: Paulo-Fernandes Date: May 8, 2003 at 20:38
Tim, axe killer went bust, but the guy who used to run it just started a new company - its called Bad Reputation and are already reissuing albums like axe killer did.

From: Benn Date: June 7, 2003 at 0:44
Hey! Unfortunately, someone told the story of Metal Mayhem wanting to reissue the album but the singer wanted too much $! If I won the lotto, I'd buy the rights just so I could reissue this thing. I've got the Bittersuite demo and a few of the non-released EP tracks on tape and they rock! Last I heard, Stephen Shaw was working as a tour manager for either Poi Dog Pondering or Toad The Wet Sprocket... one of those goofy named bands.

From: JOE BLACK Date: June 12, 2003 at 20:12
ROCKCANDY DOES KICK ASS, AS DID SINFUL AND L.A. TWIST!!! MR.DOLAN IS SADLY MISTAKEN ABOUT SOME OF HIS COMMENTS. HE OBVIOUSLY DOESNT KNOW THE BOYS.

From: ERIK Date: August 14, 2003 at 12:31
It's just amazing how many good bands there are from this era! This band is, in my opinion, one of the best of the 'less known' bands. I wouldn't call this glam though. It's more 'non-polished' melodic metal... I'm gonna go and find the original; only have it on mp3...

I'm in the process of getting John (Angel)Scaglione involved in giving Rock candy's Music to the people. I also think a web page from them would be great. Somebody mentioned a video from the penny arcade in rochester. I think i was a roadie for the openning band 'Hush' for that show. Hush was a great band featuring Fran Scaglione (John's brother) on Drums. They were similar to Rockcandy, glammed out with great tunes. Can anybody send me some Rockcandy. It would be gretly appreciated. markgrant20

Any song could have been massive on radio back in the day and this is just one of the easiest and most enjoyable albums to listen to that I can possibly think of. Truly a masterpeice in simple but effective glam hard rock. 9/10

ROCKCANDY KICKED ASS. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN GET THAT ALBUM PLEASE CONTACT ME AT info@sicksanity.com or go to the web site www.sicksanity.com I REALLY WANT THAT ALBUM. I USED HAVE IT BUT SOME ASSHOLE STOLE IT. TWO SIDES OF THE COIN IS #1 PEACE OUT

From: Leigh Date: January 20, 2005 at 13:59
I was a SUNY Buffalo student from '85-'89 and my roommates and I used to go see these guys play all the time -- they kicked ASS! Back then, everyone in Western New York who was into rock was into Rockcandy (and their sometime opening band Hush). The local rock station even used to play 'Ball and Chain.' Anyone know if or when that reunion is gonna happen? Or if 'Sucker' will FINALLY be released on CD? Thanks! (email me: glazedbeets@aol.com)

From: bill Date: March 25, 2005 at 10:33
what is the deal with the reunion?

From: Rickey Date: April 5, 2005 at 22:53
I played bass in the last version of Rock Candy. I don't think we ever captured the magic of the original band, but we did record some great demos that were never released. I was contacted about a possible reunion, but haven't heard anything in quite a while. Joel was a fantastic drummer to play with and Jose was one of the better singers I have worked with. I would like to see the band get together again and have some fun. Rickey Ellis

From: Date: April 8, 2005 at 14:51
We caught their show at the penny arcade every time, the original band was awesome ! Rickey played well during his time with the band as did Stan P. We would love to see that reunion! I have 18 tracks from the band that are seemingly stuck in the cd player. That band rocked! Bill , rochester

From: GregB Date: July 19, 2005 at 22:15
Does anyone know about the reunion talk? I recently spoke with 97 Rock DJs and had a great remembrance conversation, but they didn't know about Rockcandy doing another show... Keep me in the loop, I'll buy the 'JACK' :-) If anyone knows how to get ahold of the guys send e-mail... gregburkejr@hotmail.com

From: mg1984 Date: August 31, 2005 at 8:52
Seems to me a real Rockcandy reunion would never happen. Steve has said he doesn't really play any more and is quite happy in his role in the biz these days. Johnny lives on the other side of the country, and any time I've emailed him about rockcandy he doesn't talk about it. as far as jose (or what ever he calls himself theese days)is concerned, probably doesn't have the pipes anymore. for me rockcandy is like Van Halen without all of the original members, who cares.

From: metalmaniac777 Date: April 20, 2011 at 12:55
Hard rock, glam, hair-metal...slap them with whatever genre tag you prefer, but no matter what you call it, this band rocks. We've all been duped by overhyped indies before, but this one actually delivers the goods. If you're in the mood for some Poison-esque pop-metal, then you should definitely track down a copy of this gem. Catchier than chickenpox in kindergarten and loaded with more hooks than a tackle box. Yeah, the formula is pretty simplistic, but it's done in expert fashion, providing fun, energetic hard rock that doesn't require a Master's Degree to grasp. If you're a sucker for some cool, kickass hair-metal, then this one'll put a big ol' smile on your pretty face.

Alexxtcatz, i have indeed. Back into my student years, 1992-1996, i worked in a record shop in Manchester area, never being a fan of heavy metal still liked the band which reminded me Bon Jovi circa 1988 so i grabbed one for myself. Its released on some UK label in 1990 or so...Catchy songs, not heavy at all, more like Poison/Bon Jovi with light guitars and nice vocals. Girls liked this stuff in 80s, i still do now LOL I'll give a call to my boss if he still has these cds.

From: Alexxtcatz Date: January 12, 2012 at 17:09

I'm curious as to where these silver pressed CDs have come from? For years it was well known that this release had only been pressed on vinyl (and maybe some cassettes? not sure about that). Where have these popped up from all of a sudden? I know several years back the original owner of Retrospect Records (Joe Dolan) had been working with one or more of the band members, and "supposedly" had some CDs pressed; could that be where these are coming from? Not trying to stir shit, but I do seriously doubt the legitimacy of these CDs. http://www.allhardrock.com/artist_rockcandy.php

From: DazBuFF Date: March 9, 2012 at 2:40
According to my cd it was a label called link the catalog number is 8701. I have been told that this label also did warp drive gimme gimme cd. It sure looks legit to me. It has a real nice rock candy logo on the cd itself. It has a copyright date of 1990 , and also notes sweet tooth records as the original label of rock candy. In the sleeve it gives tour dates for the band. I thought the same thing you did, whiplash. But if it is a boot, it's a real damn good one. I'm just afraid this will never be re released on cd. So this one will do. I need to check my cd and see if it has a reflective barcode around the center of the cd.

From: Alexxtcatz Date: March 9, 2012 at 16:44
I dont see nothing strange in this situation, i collecting hair metal for last 20 years and every year discovering information about cd releases. for example, one rare uk glam band had all its releases ONLY on vinyl and only 2 months ago i found cd-single version of one of vinyl EPs. Record industry world is huge, you will never know where and how back in 80s-90s were sold the rights! how many of you know that JET RED CD was released in France in 1991 on MFN???

I don't dispute that there are "new" discoveries every year. There are probably always going to be little "local bands" that had a few CDs pressed up back in the day that get discovered. Rock Candy is a little different in that most indie hard rock collectors have been aware of this band's existence for years, and I simply find it hard to believe that if there was ever a legit pressing that it's taken this long to surface. While I personally don't care if there's a legit CD out there or not, what does bug me is to think of good folks like Dale possibly being lied to about the legitimacy of a CD they've purchased.

From: sweet333 Date: March 10, 2012 at 11:45
or does it bug you that you dont have it and cant afford to pay £499.99?

From: DazBuFF Date: March 10, 2012 at 13:58
I think that whiplash is just more cautious. I really hope that my cd of rock candy is legit, at least by pressing standards. My oh my it really does look legit. What does make a cd legit? Is it the say so of certain companies and groups? Or ?? The silver pressing is pretty legit to me but just so anyone knows I still would buy a new cd of this by the guys themselves or the company they went thru if they re released this. I wish this was a SURRENDER. Scenario. They found out how many people wanted their stuff released and got it done with a few Extra tracks to boot. Thanks all!

From: Alexxtcatz Date: March 10, 2012 at 15:37
One of the main rules HH is NO cassette and vinyl releases in data base. Strangely, if everybody believe that this album hasn’t been released yet on CD, then why rock cany album exists in the heavy harmonies data base. i bought it some years ago and this stuff looks more legit for me than any of semi fakes cd-r releases from such labels as demon doll records or similar

sweet333, paying £499.99 for ANY CD is ignorant in my opinion, but again, that's just my opinion. Paying hundreds of dollars\pounds for something that isn't even an official release would be beyond stupid. Perhaps the only way to settle this is to track down one or more of the band members down and get their input? Alexxcatz, this release was added to the database NINE years ago. As someone who helps add submissions I can tell you that there is not time to scrutinize every submission to verify whether or not its been released on CD. Some are caught, some aren't. This one wasn't; simple as that. And yes, there are A LOT of boots out there that look more legit than some of the crappy CD-R releases being put out these days.

From: sweet333 Date: March 19, 2012 at 17:22
Link Records CD is silver pressed original but here is crappy cd-r is now on ebay from seller named showtime9966. from so called TIME WARP RECORDS, which never existed. It was created with imagination of RETROSPECT RECORDS Sam and helps him to sell loads of cd-rs to all of you devoted followers )))

Heavy Harmonies Volunteer
From: whiplash1972 Date: March 19, 2012 at 22:02
Sorry, but until someone can prove otherwise, the Time Warp Records CD-r is just as legitimate as the supposed Link Records UK pressing, which is to say, IT'S NOT. And FYI, the Link Records from the UK was a label that specialized in punk and Ska music. The Link Records that put out CDs like Winter's Reign, Warp Drive, etc.. was from France. So, whoever concocted the little back story about Link Records from England releasing this without the band's consent screwed that up royally.

From: sweet333 Date: March 20, 2012 at 2:56
Well i definitely prefer to have silver press! cd-rs dont play after 5years on my shelf so thats just waste of money. To the point - i am happy to have LINK release as its silver, has awesome photo inside the booklet PLUS plays clear as any great WILDSIDE or SVEN GALI cd from 90s. To be honest i dont need another cheap retrospect release. If you guys dont like bootlegs...CAN ANYONE HERE SELL ME "ROXXI-DRIVE IT TO YA HARD" MEXICAN BOOTLEG FOR LIKE $10????? WILL BE VERY MUCH OBLIGED.

From: 5150 Date: March 21, 2012 at 6:09
sweet333, your last post just convicted you. You just admitted that you are into bootlegs by trying to solicate for one. All good bootlegs are silver pressed. Anyone who has collected long enough should know this. Thats why they get passed around as "official" cds. The Timewarp stuff that I have seen have all been silver pressed too, unless recently they have gone to a cdr format.

From: 5150 Date: March 21, 2012 at 6:15
I have a silver pressed copy of the Rock Candy cd also. Its easy and legal as long as you have it for personal use. Just look up any Audio Restoration company on the web and they will be happy to make you a copy of your lp or cassette that you own. They scan the artwork and fix any imperfections. You can have them make a fold out insert and all. Whatever artwork you want on the cd itself can be done also. Costs depend on complexity. Oh by the way, they also remaster it for you to take out any clicks, hisses, etc. I had mine made with a little more mid-range. It gave the cd a better bass and fuller guitars. Sounded they way it should have been. Why pay $500 for a silver pressed bootleg when you can spend $65 to have a silver pressed one made yourself by a professional. That is why these restorers are around. They help people to have there treasured lps, cassettes and 8tracks put on a silver cd to last forever. I have my silver pressed copy nicely tucked away with my official Rock Candy LP

From: DazBuFF Date: March 23, 2012 at 2:01
Hey 5150, I'd like to do the same with a cassette I have of diesel -unleaded. These r the guys that sang Sausalito summer night. As well as with my copy of the demos by rock candy. So can you disclose the name or website of the guys you used? If not here then to me at dplantz@charter.net

From: 5150 Date: March 23, 2012 at 3:03
DazBuFF, just google "Audio Restoration Services". This should get you a few places on the first page. I won't give out the guy I used for the sole reason is that they keep your stuff stored on there drives in case you lose or damage your first one. It's cheaper and easier to have them make another one than going thru the whole process again. Like I said before just google it. You should find plenty of people to be able to acommadate you.

From: Alexxtcatz Date: March 23, 2012 at 7:24
in my opinion first you need clarify the difference between duplication and replication of cds. before producing a silver cd, you must first create the glass master and then you can produce siver cds from it. how i know, no one serious company won't make glass master just for to print only one copy.

From: sweet333 Date: March 23, 2012 at 15:19
5150 "Audio Restoration Services"??they do transfers onto CD-RS ONLY! Seems like you cant see difference between cd-r and silver pressed cd mate! TIME WARP RECORDS NEVER RELEASED a CD AS SILVER PRESSED! THEY ARE ALL CD-RS. Everyone knows that. Regarding bootlegs/not bootlegs. I can type here loads of bands who were re-issued on very strange non-existing labels. First came to my mind B-JOE, cd released in 2008 on "hardrock network",which is not exist, comes mainly from Germany, everyones happy? Laurence Archer bootleg made by respectable Schmankerl Records from Germany! why noone of you is crying??? comon guys, IF FIGHT AND CRY LETS FIGHT ALL OF THEM! DEMON DOLL RECORDS! All cds, even silver pressed, made from mp3 files which they just downloading from blogs. shame. I can give you hundreds examples, but noone of them wont bring you rock candy for $10...

Trust me you guys, the talk about the glass masters is true, but that is only how the big gigantic mass injection disc machines run off thousands of copies in a single settting, so when Geffen, or MCA, want to run 500,000 copies of Justin Timberlake or Nicki Manaje, they place the glass pack on the mainframe, it takes an exact pic of it, encryption, tracks, anything that's encrypted on it, and cuts an exact copy into the mainframe computer, then it is all done by molding injection, cooling, chemicals, and chemical treating from there, and BAM!! you have 500,000 copies started at 8am, finished at 3pm, that is not how you make a silver pressed cd's, those cd's are not even cd's when they begin the molding process, you can silver press cd's, all you need is the right connections, and a shit load of cash, my step father is a conductor of a world famous choir and symphony, he has access to a press, it's not that hard, what is hard is some of the details that would go into it, like

From: Leykis101 Date: August 2, 2012 at 21:14
the packaging, the real cd inserts and booklets are done by a process, i think it's called silk screen printing or some shit like that, THAT IS ONE OF THE KEY WAYS TO TELL IF YOUR DEALING WITH A PHONEY OR NOT, If somebody has dropped the time and cash into doing the packaging right, and pressed a silver back disc, you can probably imagine they also cleaned up the audio on it, as well, and probably care a little bit about what it is, and not just making a buck, like I have a Hitman - ST cd, but it is on some wierd ass label, not Roadrunner or Roadracer or whichever label it was originally on, but it is replicated pretty top of the line, if somebody has gone to that much trouble to silver press, and dump money into the actual product, well in my view, outside of the band not getting royalties(which is bullshit)I don't really care if it's authentic or not, it's as authentic as I have been able to find. that's all.

From: sweet333 Date: November 26, 2012 at 23:43

sweet333, Im not arguing the color of your disc, OK so it's a silver pressed disc, my point on the Hittman CD didn't make sense to you? it is silver pressed, but it's most certainly not an official Hittman release, I conversed through email with Dirk Kennedy, Hittmans vocalist, the silver pressed Hittman debut I have, is a bootleg, meaning that somebody who has a press, or access to a press, and knew it was in demand, pressed however many copies of the album, then used eBay to dispense them, I have since bought the original on RoadRacer, but good bootleggers press their discs, they dont CD-R them, or so I heard, Yes it's smart to snatch up a silver pressed disc anytime over a CD-R, for the mere fact that they are a hundred times more durable and last longer, but just cause you have a silver pressed disc of an album, does not by any means make it an official release, you just got a pro bootlegged disc, and if band wont release it, thats the smart purchase to make.

From: edwithmj Date: August 3, 2015 at 18:36
A super glam release. Radio is a strange song with silly lyrics but it works very well; Stop Stop also has slightly silly lyrics but the rhythm and solo are super on this one. Head Over Heels is sort of sappy but again, it works very well and is very melodic. Other highlights are Two Sides of The Coin (which has a catchy chorus and the best solo on the disc), Wounded (great riff and vocals) and the wonderful Ball & Chain which is again, catchy as hell. My only complaint of this one is the production: the guitars seem muffled and the vocals aren't as powerful and loud as they ought to be; but if you can put up with that, listen to it, any glam fan won't be disappointed.

From: TheMetalChurch Date: November 12, 2021 at 18:39
WOW! I am JUST NOW discovering this, (Thanks to HeavyHarmonies & someone mentioning it on another album post), and I am SHOCKED on how catchy it is! Can you imagine playing "Come On, Come On" LIVE and the crowd singing along?!?!? It would be awesome. BTW: My 11 yr old daughter loves the song "Finders Keepers" lol
