Besides Images and Words probably Dream Theaters strongest albums. Great to see these guys mature and put out one of their best albums this late in their careers. This is also one of the best prog rock/metal concept albums since Queenryche's Operation: Mindcrime. Great stuff!!!

I think you are absolutly right Neal!

From: amit Date: May 15, 2001 at 20:45
this is a great cd.great melody in tunes like' spirit carries on'. too bad that we only get pirated cd in our country, nepal;which means half of the songs aren't there

One of the most intense recordings of all time. Buy the DVD live in New York. Amazing concept, amazing players!!!

From: Luis Date: August 31, 2001 at 8:29
The best thing they've ever done. Takes a few listens to really digest, but it's their masterpiece, without a doubt.

From: Chris Date: September 3, 2001 at 18:13
An absolute brilliant masterpiece of our day and age. Progressive Metal at its best. The lyrics are thought provoking and sometimes dark. LaBrie has outdone himself on this one. Their best work since "Awake". This also screams instant classic!!

From: Barış Date: September 5, 2002 at 7:15
SUPER. The top of Dream Theatre's career. This band is the current guru of progressive rock.

El mejor album de DT. Canciones como Finally Free, Strange Deja Vu, One Last Time, Home, son fantasticas todas, amo este album, desde el dia en que lo escuche por primera vez mi vida cambio, recomendado a todo aquel que ame la musica como tal. Rock On!!!!!!!!

I wonder which is the best album ever done. 2 choices:"SLAVE TO THE GRIND" of SKID ROW is one, and the other is this. THROUGH HER EYES is something that still makes me cry. Perfect.Incredible.Album of the year. At first I heard the 2nd album(Images) then Awake, and only after this I became a real fan of them.

si hay un disco mejor, por favor avísnme, pero no estoy seguro de que exista. todas las canciones son un himno del progre contemporaneo. larga vida a los herederos de rush.

An excellent album by an excellent band. THis album is contructed well, flows smoothly, great sound, great everything. Petrucci and Rudess really work well together and take what liquid tension experiment had and got the who band with Myung and Portnoy and made one of the best albums ever. Possibly even better than images and words!

From: tillo Date: May 1, 2004 at 20:01
maybe, the best album of the best band ever long live DT, long live prog metal!!!

From: Rycheage Date: August 16, 2004 at 22:34
As far as concept albums go, this rivals the mighty "Operation:Mindcrime" from Queensryche. What a story. Fluid motion straight ahead, sometimes dark lyrics notwithstanding, this epitomizes classic. Great stuff!!

From: Kip Date: October 8, 2004 at 8:46
This is the best prog metal CD ever. I don't claim to be an expert in prog metal or anything, but I just don't see how and CD in the genre could POSSIBLY be any better than this complete masterpiece. Even though melodic metal is my drug of choice, I could never get enough of this album. Home has the most killer melodies of any tune I own, and The Spirit Carries On is just the perfect ballad as a prefinale. The storyline is excellent and the music flows nicely from beginning to end. 10/10

From: Kip Date: October 8, 2004 at 8:50
The only knock I have to give this CD is the fact when I don't listen to this album from beginning to end in the order it's released in, it's no where near as enjoyable, so I tend to think of the CD as one big 77 minute opus. The only song that seems to stand up really well alone is the afformentioned 'Spirit' which is probably the most unappriciated song they have ever written.

SE ME HACE MUY DIFICIL, DE VERDAD, DECIR QUE ESTE ES EL MEJOR DISCO DE D.T.(Y PROBABLEMENTE DEL ROK PROGRESIVO), Y DECIR LO MISMO DE IMAGES AND WORDS, DISCOS DISTINTOS PERO CON LA MAGIA INTACTA. COMO NO CAER ANTE LA MAJESTTUOSIDAD DE "Strange Deja Vu" Y SUS INMEDIANTAS RREMINICENCIAS DE KANSAS, COMO NO MORIR AL ESCUCHAR "Finaly free", HIPNOTICO COMO NINGUNO EN EL GENERO. SIMPLEMENTE EL MEJOR DISCO DE LOS ¿MEJORES MUSICOS? POR AHORA HABRA QUE CREERLO NOMAS. PD:HACE FALTA DECIR QUE 100/10?

From: SOC2004 Date: June 2, 2005 at 18:34
What was originally intended as a joke by John Petrucci with the Part 1 tag morphed into something much bigger. The story is very reminiscent of Queensryche's Operation:Mindcrime right to down to the main character of Nikki! Musically speaking we have strong tracks in opener Strange Deja Vu, Fatal Tragedy, and the mindbending Liquid Tension inspired Dance of Eternity. But the true meaning behind the album is so cliche being one of reincarnation. The band could have put more thought into it.

excellent release by DREAM THEATER ,with a less heavy sound and a concept theme.the musicianship of this band is outstanding and the songwriting is of the highest level!"through her eyes" and "finally free" are my favs and this one is a must have for fans of this prog rock band

From: Ydol eM Date: March 11, 2014 at 13:29
This conceptual progressive metal album is very strong, very professional, but on the other side of the coin it is IMO too academic and rather cold (credit to exceptions like #7...). As for music, it sums up two preceding regular albums and also some moments from first Mullmuzzler published in the same year. Maybe I'm too strict but I always compare this record to either "Images and words"(because od DT) or "Operation Mindcrime" (because of the concept and idea). 80/100.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: June 13, 2014 at 17:45
Conceptual album with the typical "noise" of the band...songs that last centuries in lenght ....a good one though.90/100
