Let's be realistic about the rock genre, the standard deviation of this style is not monumental. Rockers even though pretending to be non-conformist in their lifestyle are really confining and limiting in the stylistic aspects of the Rock genre. I've come to rely on the conformity of the genre and now in retrospect, tend to judge it by the subtle nuances of melody and sound quality and musical craftsmanship. St. Elmo's Fire has come a long way over the years. Each release shows the musical progression of the band and the progression of the genre. If you listen to each St. Elmo's Fire release in order, it is a template for the progression of the 80's into the 90's in this mainstream genre. Financial backing of a major label and a strong music producer would have taken a band like St. Elmo's Fire to the "Big League". Throughout the 80's into the 90's were ready and waiting to be called up to the majors.
