A great live album from a band that's famous for being extremely tight in concert. Lynch's axework is jaw-dropping, and Don Dokken sounds in pretty good shape vocally (though his high notes go a bit flat on "Into The Fire"). One point is taken off because it's hard to believe that a band could sound THAT good -- ah, the magic of the studio! (9 out of 10)

My Jaw dropped when I heard the solo for TOOTH AND NAIL and since then this cd is a milestone in the metal genre!!! Along w Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen, George Lynch was the greatest guitarist in the world. I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!

A great Live copilation, but sadly the sound isn´t that good, they tried to do a Studio sound and the drums doesn´t sound clear; however it's a good live Album. fistro1@hotmail.com

La autentica y clasica formacon de Dokken en su momento aljido. Uno de los mejores directos, con un Lynch demoledor. 10/10

From: RR-Finland Date: August 30, 2003 at 7:33
I´m not sure what tracklist that is above, but I got double LP and there´s 17 tracks included. All these 14 tracks and also: Standing In The Shadows, Sleepless Night and Turn On The Action. Anyhow, good live act.

George Lynch at his prime. If you love excellent guitarwork combined with catchy songs, go for this album. CD version of the album has only 14 tracks due to time limitations

Excellent live disc featuring the "TRUE" Dokken line-up doing all the Dokken classics. Also features the very prophetic ballad "Walk Away",as just after this release, Don and George did indeed walk away from each other....

From: lance1 Date: December 13, 2003 at 1:46
rokken with dokken, this cd kicks butt.george lynch rules.from start to finish this cd is awesome and the guitar solo on into the fire is the bomb.crank it up loud.

From: byrdman69 Date: January 5, 2004 at 11:12
This is by far my favorite Dokken release of all. It is like a greatest hits live album. The band is really tight, and George Lynch is great, as usual. Don Dokken's voice is extremely smooth, and the production on this live set is very good. If you have never seen Dokken live, pop in this c.d., crank it up, and turn the lights out, and you will be close. Every song on here rocks. I give this one an 9/10. Very recommended!!

From: meradona Date: April 2, 2004 at 18:47

This is a great album, I still listen to it. The pre solo to mr scary is what I like the best. The whole damn thing rocks The only bitch I have is that 3 songs were left off the cd. That's a bummer! Pretty ironic that the last song is walk away, considering they were breaking up at this time, that was a cool video. The only downfall of this band is that Don is a ASSHOLE!

After listening to this album 6 to 7 times, i still can't get enough of it. I think i might even put Dokken in the no.1 spot in 'my favourite rock group listing'. I think i'll stop listening to more of dokken cause i don't want them to replace cinderella as my favourite rock act. I don't think dokken care anyway cause they probably have lots of no.1 out there anyway!

From: Rick Thunder Date: July 15, 2004 at 8:18

Simply awesome live disc, and an fitting end to a spectacular band who would never be the same again. And 'Walk away' is a beautiful last studio track too. Awesome.

From: AOR freaky Date: March 5, 2005 at 3:06
I fully agree with you on this one, Geoff ! Great band, fantastic guitarist and indeed, after this, they lost it !

I don't normally like live albums, but this one rocks. I even have the far superior Japanese 2cd version which has the additional tracks Standing In The Shadows, Sleeples Nights and Turn On The Action.

From the opening tune, there is no doubt Dokken could produce the goods back in the day. Glad to see they captured the moment when they still knew how to rock. Of an important note, the japanese import version is displayed on 2 cd's containg 17 tracks & worth searching out.

BEST BAND EVER...BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER!

From: Nix Date: April 2, 2007 at 13:48
This is probably my favorite Dokken album and is one of my favorite albums of all time. Lynch OWNS here, playing over-the-top from start to finish, and even if he does seem like a big @$$hole, he's still my favorite guitarist! The CD is just full of excellently played songs. 'Tooth And Nail' has to have the best guitar solo in history. I must admit that at first I wasn't into the sound quality, but I got over it. It would be hard to believe another live album from any band could top this...

From: Rambo Rockerman Date: January 20, 2008 at 10:36
Bloody good live CD.I usually don't bother with live cd,when their could be a DVD instead, but back then there wasn't.They need to get this on DVD,they must have it filmed somewhere.

From: Metal T Date: December 23, 2008 at 18:03
Great live set! Always thought 'Walk Away' was one of the best tunes Don and Co, ever put out.Perfect song that just happened to be on a live album. The jap version of this was a two-disc set.Great stuff from a great band.-

From: Rick Thunder Date: December 5, 2009 at 2:22
This a great live album , one of the best in the hard rock music, george is a guitar god, sadly the cd doesn't have 3 amazing songs: standing in the shadows, sleepless nights and the great turn on the action, this one hits your brain and turn on your heart like never before, it's beautiful. Thundering on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now I Have the 2 cd set from Japan, Thank God.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 26, 2012 at 15:30
I have the cassette version, which also includes "Standing In The Shadows" and "Sleepless Nights," (neither of which are essential) and "Turn On The Action," which finishes off the show on a nice, uptempo note. Overall, a solid live album, but my biggest gripe is the sound quality. It has the same, unnatural, reverb-y drum sound as one of their studio albums fro the '80's, and you know that doesn't happen live. Also, the mix is just not bottom-heavy at all, with the bass buried, again, just like their studio albums, and Lynch's thin, trebly guitar tone. Having said all that, the versions of "Alone Again" and "Breaking The Chains' are outstanding, and I like the reworked melody in "In My Dreams" (Don's part in the chorus), but aside from that, few songs add anything to their original versions. I wouldn't be surprised if this were not heavily retouched.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 26, 2012 at 15:34
The real gem, of course, is "Walk Away," the studio track tacked on at the end. It's another one of the morose "I've done you wrong and now I'm so sorry, but it's too late" ballads that Don excels at. Come to think of it, that lyrical theme or its opposite ("you've done ME wrong, but I'm still the one who's sorry") sums up just about 80% of Dokken's material anyway. It's no wonder the Scorpions almost hired him; his style of ballad was very similar, musically, to their own at the time.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: January 26, 2012 at 20:11
I meant I WOULD be surprised if it weren't havily retouched.

From: pie75 Date: April 15, 2012 at 7:05
great bands make great live albums dokken is no exception came out at the right time tooshame they imploded there for a while

From: edwithmj Date: September 30, 2015 at 17:13
I don't care if this has been redone in the studio or not. The versions of Just Got Lucky (much more haunting), Alone Again, Breaking The Chains (superb), In My Dreams, Into The Fire and of course Tooth And Nail (even better solo) are all fantastic. This is all the live Dokken I'll ever need thank you very much.

Live in Tokyo, Japan, April 1988.

From: titothetitan Date: April 25, 2019 at 8:50
Awesome live show! Dokken plays their best songs. But you can clearly hear some post-production on it. Still, I would love to see this on Dvd. 95/100
