An absolutely amazing album that confirms once again Tempest's talent in songwriting. It's the most "soft" record EUROPE ever produced but this doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. Michaeli's keyboards dominate the album along with new guitarist Kee Marcello's extremely melodic guitar playing. Lots of remarkable tracks, but let's choose the fast rocker "More Than Meets The Eye",the melodic cuts "Sign Of The Times" & "Never Say Die" and the ballad "Open Your Heart".Thanx EUROPE for Out Of This World!

From: simon smith Date: June 29, 2001 at 16:25
Fantastic record, very melodic with excellent guitar playing from Kee Marcello

From: Mentalizer Date: July 15, 2001 at 14:49
Of course Europe is an amazing and unbelieveble hard rock band!!!! But take a look at the fans' comments!!! Jerry and Simon Smith talked about excellent guitars!!! Oh, crap!!! If you had a glam spirit, of course you would never say that!!!!! Listen to the music... or better... feel the music!!!!!

From: simon smith Date: July 29, 2001 at 17:55
Good point Mentaltozer,I was such an idot. Great review of the album by the way.Feel you later

From: jetynho Date: September 12, 2001 at 0:22
hey hey! This one kick ass! great guitars, KEE MARCELLO rlz!!!!!! I think that Europe was the best non-american Hard rock band, i hope that the guys give to us another great album sooner. By the way europe isn't a glam band, dont u think Mentalizer?

From: Mentalizer Date: September 24, 2001 at 21:14
Hey, Jety! Fofura forever! Yeah! Hardão! I know Europe is not exactly a glam band, but who has poser spirit and glam blood would feel the music and cry for Europe

From: Magnus Date: November 1, 2001 at 17:52
This is in my opinion Scandi Aor and not Glam,,One of the best of it's kind...Magic guys!

From: DRAGONFLY Date: December 12, 2001 at 9:21
JOHN NORUM out and KEE MARCELLO in. You can tell the difference but they still rock.

From: EternalCh Date: February 25, 2002 at 12:26

From: AORMASTER Date: May 15, 2002 at 18:59
This CD by Europe kicks some major ass. Joey Tempest has superb vocal chops and Kee Marcello is easily as good as John Norum. Both of whom smoke all 90's crappy American 'alternative' guitarists. Europe are NOT Glam - they are AOR and AOR RULES - although i do like both genres. When these genres died in America in 1992 with the uprising of noisy untalented shyte called Grunge [UGH!] , true rock and roll died [in the USA anyways - cuz they still know how to rock in Europe & Japan].

From: Desslar Date: May 16, 2002 at 3:57
Some good songs (Superstitious is awesome), but overall it is way too soft. As someone said, this is Europe turned AOR. The two preceding albums are much better.

From: SrFloppy5 Date: June 13, 2002 at 15:34

Hi Group. If you ever use Grokster or any other file sharing program. try out the Swedish FunMetal band Black Ingvars Especially the tracks called Gospel Medley and Waterloo. Damn funny/good stuff. Try and figure out how many tracks they mix in the same number. Some of the band members used to play in the Swedish Band Swedish Erotica. This Europe cd is quite good. I just listened to it for the first time in 200 years. Its good.

From: Francesco-ITA Date: November 9, 2002 at 6:50
I brani migliori sono la magnifica Superstitious, la caldissima Let The Good Times Rock, il capolavoro pomp More Than Meets The Eye e la ruffianissima e raffinata Sign Of The Times.

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: December 10, 2002 at 10:41

From: robert Date: December 10, 2002 at 15:01
A mi me encanta el tema cañero: READY OR NOT.. Gran disco!!para mi igual d bueno q THE FINAL..

From: Scandinavia Date: December 30, 2002 at 12:18
A lot of Europe fans claim that this album sucks along with Prisoners but take a listen...The songs got much more soul with Kee on the axe. A song like More Than Meets the Eye sums it all up...still got that catchy Europe sound but rox more than Countdown ever did...Countdown was way too polished...Still a great album but Out of this World must be my fave Europe album. Kee's playing is awesome. Way too overshadowed guitar player...he's got dazzling technique while he still plays with his heart.

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: December 30, 2002 at 14:23

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: December 30, 2002 at 14:26

From: Gar Date: January 2, 2003 at 6:17
COUNTDOWN had some great songs on it, but was too slick and polished for me. This one retains the more commercial sound, but shows a rawer edge. "Superstitious" is a brilliant song. It is to the bands credit that all the songs on this album are above average. I got this when it came out, and it still holds up today. Its too bad that they had only one more studio album after this. The band went out at their peak.

John Norum is good, but Kee Marcello is incredible!!! And Joey's voice is a present for your ears. This album is just perfect!

From: West Of Sunset Date: March 2, 2003 at 6:47
This one is MUCH BETTER than Final Contdown and is the best CD by Europe. Is full of melodic tunes that makes me feel that before the music were music and not shit and mone as nowadays.Kee Marcello kick John Norum ass in this CD!!!.I thin Kee is considerably better and a more original and complet guitarrist thant the very Schenker influenced Norum ´cause Marcello had his own killer melodic style and better skill than Norum as you can see here.10/10 simply perfect!.Contact:westofsunset@hotmail.com

From: Alejandro Date: May 15, 2003 at 13:09
Clasico absoluto. 10/10.

One power metal song after another on this album. A great follow up to the final countdown. Rock on Joey!

From: Tony Date: June 9, 2003 at 6:05
Great solid melodic pop-metal here from the first song to the last. Just dove head first into the whole "pretty boy" image & sound here and you just knew they were going to get crucified for it. Europe was a weird one for me because it was like they were "punished" for being good-looking regardless of musical output. Somebody had to be the whipping boys and these guys and Winger were hung out to dry. Beautiful sounding & Kee is awesome here and the melodies just OOZE out of your speaker.

From: kike tembleke Date: June 24, 2003 at 17:40

From: kim Date: June 28, 2003 at 11:03
It was very difficult excel "The Final Countdown" but this LP is wonderful! The guitar is most hard and the songs are most catchy. It's a great work. Thanks swedish guys!

From: John Date: August 12, 2003 at 11:49
The solo in 'Superstitious' is one of my favorites ever laid down. Some of these songs are just in the not so strong category. They really stepped it up a notch with 'Prisoners Of Paradise'.

From: bretijani Date: August 14, 2003 at 20:27

From: RR-Finland Date: September 15, 2003 at 1:30
Not very dear Europe album to me. There´s slight blues sound over the record and not so much catchy tunes what you might except from this band. John Norum took off and he was replaced by Kee and I think there´s big reason why this band lost his soul... Ok, there´s good tunes like Open Your Heart, More Than Meets The Eye, Ready Or Not and Never Say Die, but those tracks doesn´t reach the level what previous albums was set.

From: John Date: October 1, 2003 at 0:01
It was all down hill from here..that sucks

From: keebler Date: October 8, 2003 at 1:46

From: Elton Date: November 3, 2003 at 15:43
Pretty beautiful, emotional and technical. The songs aren´t artificial like many others and the work of keyboards, guitars and vocals are perfect!

From: Chuckie Date: January 15, 2004 at 11:56
The album is great i think. Joey's vocal is awesome, and the ballads are wonderful. "Ready Or Not", "Tomorrow" & "Open Your Heart" are superb songs.

From: run2u Date: March 25, 2004 at 10:09

I THINK TOMORROW WOULD SOUND EVEN BETTER WITH SOME GUITAR MIXING! THE BEST EUROPE ALBUM AFTER THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT EUROPE IS A GREAT AND TALENTED BAND JUST LIKE CINDERELLA(MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE). I JUST WISH NOWADAYS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WOULD PRODUCE BANDS LIKE THEM INSTEAD OF BANDS LIKE LINKIN PARK,LIMP BIZKIT,GREEN EYE PEA..ETC

From: TIM (2) Date: June 3, 2004 at 4:23
Someone above is complaining that this is Europe turned AOR. So what? Brilliant stuff, and I for one am delighted that Norum left the band as Kee Marcello is better suited to this stuff anyway. This is one of my favourite ever CDs, and it probably is way too soft but I couldn't care less. The guitar solo in "Superstitious" is worth the price of this CD alone.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 13, 2004 at 0:30
I just can't get into this album. Europe completely waters down the sound going for a lite version of The Final Countdown. I can see why people like this one, but I tend to think it is very overrated. Even though Kee Marcello is a good guitarist, the band definately lost something when John Norum left. 5/10

From: jack Date: July 20, 2004 at 3:15
Big Papa K-Overrated maybe but NOT AS the countdown album. I think why john left the band is because while he is more into harder metallic rock like dokken or scorpion, the other member like joey were more into or influenced by 'normal'rocker like toto or africa. What do you reckon?

From: Paolo Date: August 19, 2004 at 3:44
totally in agreement with my compatriot Gazzman.....many expected THE FINAL COUNTDOWN PART 2 but this record is way better....i don't think that Europe were better with Norum,Kee Marcello is an incredible guitarist and put in this album great solos... CAZZO....TUTTI IN SVIZZERA IL 22/8 A VEDERLI SUONARE DAL VIVO....NON VEDO L'ORA....E' GIA' INIZIATO IL CONTO ALLA ROVESCIAAAAAAAA

From: Geoff Date: August 19, 2004 at 6:17
I really quite like this album. Until 'Prisoner in paradise' Europe never rated too high on my list of faves, but this is a great melodic hard rock CD. 'More than meets the eye', the remake of 'Open your heart', 'Ready or not' and 'Just the beginning' are my faves. Still not a perfect album by any means to these ears, but a great release nevertheless.

From: jack Date: August 24, 2004 at 5:41
TIM(2)-I would never agre with anyone saying this album is AOR,this is a weaker under lock and key. This is melodic hard rock just like the countdown album while the first 2 album is melodic metal. Basicaaly,i think europe calassify as melodic hard rock like winger, white lion or bon jovi while bands like scorpion, dokken, wasp are more on the melodic metal side.

From: TIM (2) Date: August 24, 2004 at 5:49
A weaker "Lock & Key"???! Why on earth compare Europe with Dokken? Fair enough the first couple of Europe albums were pretty heavy on the guitar, but this is not much different to Treat, Da Vinci, Dalton etc. It's smothered in keys, and very light on the guitar, but if you wanna call it melodic rock and not AOR that's fine. But comparing it with Dokken is utterly ludicrous. Have you even bothered playing this album? Dokken are hard rock, Europe haven't been hard rock for 20 years....

From: Paolo Date: August 24, 2004 at 7:26
do you ever want to put LABELS on the band????....whatever they are, they great....nothing more to say

From: Paolo Date: August 24, 2004 at 7:26
they're great

From: jack Date: August 30, 2004 at 4:48
TIM(2)-I listen to this album more than 7 or 8 times a week since this is one of my favourite album like all the other europe album. But,you're right-i shouldn't have compare this with dokken. i can't believe that i think this is a weaker lock and key considering a listen to anthrax every day(my favourite thrash metal band). But i still think their first two album are melodic metal(thats just my opinion).cheers!

From: run2u Date: August 30, 2004 at 12:48
Para mí,"Final...","Out Of This World"&"Prisoners..."son los grandes trabajos de Europe.

From: run2u Date: August 30, 2004 at 12:54

Great News! You can watch the video of the first single from the upcoming new album following the link: http://qstream-wm.qbrick.com/00862/noje/0408/m0no040827europe.wmv The song is called Got To Have Faith.

From: Chris Date: September 6, 2004 at 2:51
This is easily Europe's best album and one of the finest melodic rock releases ever. Everything comes together on this one, the fantastic production (courtesy of Ron Nevison), Marcello's incredible melodic playing (the guy is just too good, check out the solos on Let The Good Times Rock or Just The Beginning!), Tempest's songwriting (the hooks one EVERY song are immense) and even Michaeli's keyboards which embellish every tune! If you only want to have one Europe album then buy this one!

From: Joan Date: September 10, 2004 at 16:44
Aun así, me quedo "Out of this world". More than meets the eye, Sign of the times (ese teclado que te pone los pelos de punta), Superstitious.. y la que mas me emociona de todas las canciones de Europe: COAST TO COAST

From: Rycheage Date: September 27, 2004 at 19:39
This album does indeed showcase the band's cohesiveness and talent as musicians. A bit more mature release that "Countdown" as evidenced by the lack of cheese in the lyrics. Due to losing Norum for this release, they went the AOR route and do it with class. Kee Marcello is more than capable of filling in, although the trademark guitar sound is gone. This is an excellent release in its own right and I highly recommend it.

From: Marky Date: November 8, 2004 at 22:17
Hay muy pocas palabras para calificar a este album ,yo me kedi con estas:PERFECTO,superstitius, ready or not, open your heart, tomorrow, let the good times rock, insuperables y perfectas.Aprende Bon Jovi.

From: Hairspray Date: November 11, 2004 at 5:44
Simply Fantastic. All the tracks are great, even the very sugary "coast to Coast". "Superstitious" and "More Than Meets the Eye" are excellent, I just hope they play them at the London gig this month. The guitar solo on "Superstitious" still sends shivers down my spine even after all these years. I saw them in London back in 1989, it is still one of the best concerts I have seen. So much heavier live but then you probably all know that anyway. Altogether now... "Lights... And Shadows"

From: Augusto Date: January 17, 2005 at 10:39

One of the finest pure keyboard driven AOR albums of all time. Nuff said...

From: GLAM FAN Date: April 18, 2005 at 7:02
A marked improvement over the final countdown. There are traces of pop rock, arena rock and even AOR. But still,i kinda like this album. The album's best hits,Superstitous(sounded like a pop song) and sign o the times(the keyboards, ugh!) are horrible but let the good time rock and ready or not(reminds me of thin lizzy) are fantastic, shout along anthem. Open your heart and tomorrow(a piano piece ballad) are o.k. No doubt, this album would be loved by europe die hard fan

From: GALM FAN Date: April 18, 2005 at 7:04
but for those who are not(like me!) would find this album just above average. Ratings:7/10

From: Mediaab Date: December 7, 2005 at 9:40
Europe has had the privilege of having two of the best guitarists out there in melodic rock - Kee does a fantastic job on this disc with his ultra-clean and melodic style! Joey still sings with his super-range, a pleasure to listen to. A quite commercial album, it is strange that it didn't sold more. Whatsoever, it is an excellent album in every way, highly recommended. 95/100 on my scale.

From: JF Date: March 27, 2006 at 19:58

From: JF Date: March 27, 2006 at 19:59

Y NO GLAM!!!

MORE THAN...,OPEN YOUR...,SIGN OF THE ...,TOMORROW, bueno, todas.

You really can't go wrong with any of Europe's 80's albums. But if you were going to start with one, make it this one or The Final Countdown. This one is fantastic!! 10/10 Great songs continue as well as Joey Tempest's golden voice. Kee Marcello replaces John Norum on guitar and absolutely smokes! This album couldn't have sounded better. Is this one their best? Hmmm..........

From: Clayton77 Date: January 5, 2007 at 18:53
No, this isn`t the best Europe-album. Here they`re going to be too much commercial and poppy. Listen to the brilliant "Wings of tomorrow"-album and you here the difference. "Out of this world" is for my taste the No.3-Album in their history.

From: Whitesnake Date: January 6, 2007 at 7:17
I agree with metalhead4life. I don`t consider the commercial style as a bad thing. There are so many memorable moments on this cd, and Kee Marcello is just a great guitarist. "Wings Of Tomorrow" might go better with the heavy listener, but in my opinion "Wings Of Tomorrow" is weak, when it comes to the melodies. "Prisoners..." and "The Final Countdown" are good albums too. 9.5/10

From: metalhead4life Date: January 6, 2007 at 19:33
Yes, I agree Whitesnake. While Wings Of Tomorrow is a damn good album, it's not quite the trademark Europe. Joey's vocals sounded good but he was really able to show his vocal abilities on the follow ups. Europe hit the spot and found their sound with "The Final Countdown", "Out Of This World", and also "Prisoners In Paradise" (which in my opinion is the weakest of those 3). Either way, you can't go wrong with any Europe album up to Prisoner's.

A mi parecer es el mejor album de Europe creo que mejor que The Final Countdown, en este album los temas son mejor elaborados, no tan simples y melódicos como en The Final...,los solos de guitarra de Kee Marcello no tienen nada que envidiar a John Norum, ambos son genios de las seis cuerdas, pero en este album los temas son realmente excelentes Superstitious,More than meets the eye,Ready or not, Sign of the times(mi favorita)los teclados tienen un gran protagonismo en todo el album, excelente 9/10

This is IMO their best cd.The Final Countdown cd is pretty close but I have to say this is the most consistent. A true masterpiece!Timeless stuff! Go and get it!

It's hard to choose the best among the Europe albums, but if someone would be putting a gun to my head and forcing me to do it, I'd probably choose Out of this world. Why? Well, in my opinion, this is their most AOR-ish output and soundwisely closest to scandi AOR sound.Melodies close to perfection, guitar playing is good (especially the solos),the production is crystal clear. Some songs may not be as memorable as the ones included on The Final Countdown, but quality is absoluety here. 86/100

This is possibly their best album but I have to say that I do also love Final Countdown and Prisoners In Paradise. Unfortunately they won´t do it like this anymore. Shot From The Dark isn´t a band album either but I don´t like the dark guitar and production on it. Haven´t heard Social Society yet. PEOPLE let me tell you there are unknown bands out here that still do the Out Of This World sound. Check out CRYSTAL BLUE "Detour", it´s a real bargain on ebay and full of the Out Of This World magic.

From: seba Date: December 28, 2007 at 23:42

Saw them live on this "Out Of This World" Tour back in the day and they rocked out the venue (Hammersmith Odeon in London). For me,this album along with their "Final Countdown" were the 2 albums that put them on top of the map."More Than Meets The Eye"(My fav),"Let The Good...",Sign Of The Times","Open Your Heart" and the self titled are classic among the classics Europe tracks!!!.90/100

In my personal opinion I cant see the difference between Europe(Norum) and Europe(Marcello), Both are totally awesome, the band were better than never in those years, the hit formula was alive and the next albums were "in crescendo". 10/10

From: CMGio Date: March 29, 2010 at 10:18
I've never been that much of a Europe fan, though their discography is in my collection and I am a big, big John Norum fan. However, this album is excellent, as far as Europe goes. If it weren't for my love of "Cherokee" (on The Final Countdown), this would be my favorite Europe record.

From: MikeTuinstra Date: November 27, 2010 at 17:10
Well then, another true piece of quality music history here. Very different to TFC again, but never less awesome. A classic in its own right. Best described by the musicality that is Melodic Rock at its finest, accompanied by the best vocals in the history of the band. The keyboards are are a true art form on this one. They produce and emphasize the melodies, add emotion and different moods. Together with the guitar they're the core of these tunes. Detractors try to sell a more stripped down form of Rock under the "Alternative" moniker, while attempting to gain attention for their sham products, but fact of the matter is that keyboards have always been part of Rock music. What started out with Zep and Purple evolved with Whitesnake and Europe.

very good release by EUROPE right on time when hard rock music exploded and ruled the charts and the airwaves.ron nevison once again does a great job and the band sounds fresh, rockin and offers a bunch of mega hits:"superstitious","let the good times rock","more than meets the eye", "ready or not".i would say that this is a classic of that golden era.

From: Stixx Date: June 18, 2016 at 7:53
I wonder if the band ever recorded/tried out the offered Diane Warren song called "Look Away", that went on to become a Billboard #1 hit for the band Chicago in December 1988. I'd like to hear it with Joey's at the time world-class superranged smooth AOR-voice, but I'm not sure if they ever did it. If they'd included it on the album, as Ron and Kee wanted, probably the band would have stayed in the major league longer. It's still a fantastic album, but a shame it was not able to sell more. Also, not touring longer with Def Leppard was a major mistake. Kee's guitar playing on this album is nothing short of amazing!

From: dany69 Date: March 3, 2017 at 10:02
Best Europe album,No Doubt about this,,Kee put another dimension,,feeling,, on this one,,,,Masterpiece,!!!

From: titothetitan Date: October 31, 2017 at 14:31
Agree. For me, this is their best album so far (I haven't listened to all yet). The production is better. The songs are great, with big choruses and keyboards. The new guitar player Kee Marcello fits perfectly with the band. 'Open Your Heart' was re-recorded from their 2nd album and sounds so much better here.

From: Harald Date: February 7, 2020 at 20:00
Great AOR album on par with The Final Countdown. It´s a just killer no filler CD and sounds as good as it did over 30 years ago! Timeless!!!

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: May 14, 2020 at 11:39
In 1988 Europe and Joey Tempest in particular felt the pressure to repeat the commercial success of The Final Countdown. While this didn't happen they still managed to create what many consider to be their most consistent work and best album to date. With great songs, strong vocals and guitar solos that are out of this world it's a Swedish classic in the genre of Melodic Hardrock. All killer, no filler record. 10/10 points.

From: Thomas/Coastline Date: November 26, 2021 at 13:34
With "Out Of This World", Europe and in particular Joey Tempest felt the pressure to deliver the hit-oriented song material once again. He and the band succeeded with that and on this fourth album from the start they were still very much attached to the keyboard-driven melodic rock sound that had made them so highly successful. Kee Marcello was the new guy on board for the recording of this great release and he was very important in the making of it, since he brought along not only his superb guitar playing skills but also a set of musical ideas and arrangements that hadn't been tried before. 10/10
