From: AOR freaky Date: March 8, 2004 at 4:43
Very disappointing return of the AOR/pomp gods. Gone is the bombastic sound, the great melodies and harmonies and in are some modern influences. Also a poor running time of 40 minutes is not convincing. Gregg is missing here, he was HOL !!!!! No, I expected much more from this comeback !!!

From: Andy Date: March 8, 2004 at 9:10
Nothing to relate with classic HOL sound, and apart from this also songs are pretty boring and weak. It's a pity because musicianship is good and James sings well as his usual. But songwriting is really weak. They'd better use another name!!!!

From: Dickie Date: March 8, 2004 at 15:59
First time i played this i was a bit disappointed, but the more i play it the better it sounds, just dont try and compare it, to the early stuff!!!

From: Metal_Warrior Date: March 11, 2004 at 9:26
havent heard it yet.it seems that someone is abusing the rating system. It's only 3 days online, and the comments are not very good, however it has an average rating over 9,and 34(!) ratings. I hope i am mistaken and all ratings are from different people.

Another release which was bound to split people down the middle with people wanting a S/T or Sahara rehash. Approach open mindedly and most people will get something from this.Have been playing this all morning and can honestly say it is fabulous. As Dickie says you have to spin it more than once and get the previous 3 mighty discs out of your head -(3 of my all time favourites). Musicianship is top class as usual and JC is on top form. Welcome to the Millennium guys, it's great to have you back.

From: Monster Date: March 11, 2004 at 15:55
This is a great record, and I'm glad it was released. It's interesting to see how the personalities involved have all matured so much from the so called glory days. The musicianship is superb, the vocals are excellent, and the songwriting is refreshingly different from the previous 3 albums - as it should be. Congratulations to all involved, and I'm looking forward to the next.

From: rocky Date: March 13, 2004 at 13:33
this is absolutely not H O L at their best.you have to compare it with the earlier releases and then this is absolutely their worst effort...sorry to say that, because i`m a huge fan of H O L. so come on guys, get back to your roots and leave this modern sounding crap to those who like it.

Interesting release here.If I'd heard this, and not known beforehand that it was HoL,I'd have said "Not bad...kinda modern, but not bad at all".BUT,since I did know it was HoL going in,I,like everyone else, am naturally inclined to compare it to their previous releases, and in that light, it just doesn't hold up...I guess what I'm saying is, that even though this isn't what I'd call a BAD cd,I am VERY disappointed in that it's miles away from their previous stuff.Buy at your own risk...

From: zino il tino Date: March 16, 2004 at 15:55
The worst album ever, very disappointing. Save your money for the last tnt.

From: angelo manna Date: March 17, 2004 at 7:21
this is just a new evidence proving the zero level of ths label, and I hope somebody else will realize this soon. don't waste jour money

From: Federico Date: March 18, 2004 at 18:29
James the voice Christian is back, this is just a good reason to buy this cd. The sound is a bit modern, but I like it. Songs like Today have and amazing intensity. Welcome back H.O.L.

From: koogles Date: April 6, 2004 at 11:11
This is the biggest disappointment of 2004. No focus, no spark and no melodies apart from the barely passable "Today". This doesn't deserve the HOUSE OF LORDS name, and Gregg Giuffria was smart to distance himself from this lousy project.

From: dokken6008 Date: April 20, 2004 at 6:14
Sad... Really a fantastic band. Like "top five" fantastic, but this is just not a very good effort. The keys are toned way down, the guitar shredding is missing and the intensity of Christian's vocals are gone. And Greg not being part of H.O.L. probably has a lot to do with how uninspiring this album is. This is the follow up to 'Demons Down'! Unbelievable. Well, there's always Dokken's 'Hell To Pay' in a few weeks. Please, no more melodic disappointments! NO MORE!!!

From: CRIS JOHANSEN Date: April 22, 2004 at 13:58
¿PARA QUE? SI ME FORMULO ESTA PREGUNTA DESPUES DE HABER TERMINADO DE ESCUCHAR ESTE ABORTO MUSICAL.NO ENTIENDO COMO 5 MUSICOS DE PRIMER NIVEL PUEDEN HACER UN DISCO TAN MALO.SOLO SE PUEDEN RESCATAR TEMAS COMO ALL IS GONE Y CHILD OF RAGE,EL RESTO, MEJOR OLVIDARLO. HAGANME CASO BATANSE LOS POCOS PELOS QUE LE DEBEN QUEDAR A LOS FANATICOS DEL PRIMER HOUSE OF LORDS,Y PONGAN PLAY EN EL RECUERDO,PORQUE LAMENTABLEMENTE EL PRESENTE ES MUY DECEPCIONANTE

From: Tony Date: April 24, 2004 at 18:54
It sounds like the people here are real HOL die-hards which is cool but in being so I think these reviews are a tad misleading. I have all 3 previous HOL albums and to my ears this is a very good 2004 HOL release. I have ZERO idea how anybody would find this "modern" unless they simply wanted the debut cd re-written. The vocal performance on "Child Of Rage" is just incredible and there is a great majestic sound throughout this disc. Not "Demon's Down" (excellent) but good none the less.

From: biser Date: April 30, 2004 at 14:44
yes they are back with kickin sound! if there have a fans please write to bellock@abv.bg

From: biser Date: April 30, 2004 at 15:41
Hey people are you mind!!!!!!?????? Are u really think that House of Lords LP is bad.I think – we are in the 21th century and the sound cannot be like in the early 80’s.The LP’s sounds to me more than great , look their music from a different angle. Its not a pain to die for that Greg is not in the band. The vocal J.Christian is on a frontline that is fantastic. So lets leave tha past behind and feel more than happiness – the House of Lords are back or DON’T BUY the cd if u are SKEPTICS!

From: Blue Tequila Date: April 30, 2004 at 18:09
Hey biser, I cuts not heard this album drank many people with opinions I respect said this is has bad album and not up to House of standard Lords so I think I will steer clear of it. Skeptic am I!!!

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: May 1, 2004 at 3:39
It is very much less to say, after the listening. THIS IS NOT another House of lords record. Unless for some tracks it's an Ugly awful sad mixing between grunge & alternative music!!!!! I like to believe that it's all about giuffria's missing but in this record you can say goodbye to the excellent, outstanding aor that we were used to listen. It must be said, that they are incredible musicians however the record and in many ways they prove that; but in the end I sadly remember the golden times o

From: Date: May 1, 2004 at 16:55
so i like this album this is decision,if u wanna buy it or if u wanna give ur money for something else, this is the HOL today and i respect this what they're do,im not in love with the musician, i loved their music so u will decide that buy it or not

From: Carlomagno Date: May 27, 2004 at 11:58
I do believe the critics are very harsh. It´s true the sound is more dated and there is no Giuffira in it, but come on you´ve got Derek Sherinian on Keyboards!! Just listen to Today or Child or Rage to be fair!! I´ll give it a 80/100 Give it a try!!

From: Richard Date: June 5, 2004 at 7:48
Waiting for the US release, I am aware of the possible let down, however, with Giuffria backing out in the middle, and leaving the rest to scramble for the replacement, I guess it's what can be expected. Giuffria is better off solo, this way when he quits half stride he only has himself to let down. Not the rest of the group and fans.

From: TIM (2) Date: June 22, 2004 at 8:11
Oh dear. The first and last tracks are good, but the 8 inbetween would be fillers on any of their past albums. Technically it's good, and I can admire some of the musicianship on here, but the vocals are just so life-less and uninspired. And I'm not sure why it needed 4 keyboard players?! Sorry but this is a real let-down...

From: Dave Date: June 27, 2004 at 1:49
Where in the hell did they come up with the inspiration for this material????It sounds like they were in some Indian restuarant watching a belly dancer!!!!The review from AOR Heaven said it all,"Is this what we have waited so long for" Yet again a huge disappointment for an album eagerly awaited. The only song that is half decent is Child Of Rage and the bonus track "Havana" is not worth paying any extra for on the Japanese Import. 3/10

From: Chevalier Date: July 3, 2004 at 21:14
Very disappointing album to me.I didn't expect any kind of modern rock from HoL.I just wanted to hear something at least near the old melodies...the old sound.Nothing like that.Too sad.The only good track is the instrumental one.Enough said.Sorry for the ones who like it,they surely agree this is definitely far from the the albums they made us love them.Just my point of view.

From: dckiss Date: July 3, 2004 at 23:25
My issue with this album is there is only one hook on this album. I listened to this one every day for a couple of weeks. And with the exception of Today, I can only rememeber "Today". Greg is clearly the missing ingredient here.

From: TIM (2) Date: July 29, 2004 at 6:08
I must admit this has grown on me slightly through many repeated listens. I do really like "Today" and "Child of Rage", but "The Rapture" has that 'big' sound of old, and "Man Who I Am" has some great melodies that grow with each listen. The other songs range from average to bloody awful, with "Mind Trip" and "All is Gone", and the totally direction-less title track being the biggest culprets. I would recommend people buy this and let it grow (and skip about 4 tracks!). 6.5/10.

From: dokken6008 Date: August 9, 2004 at 22:54
'The Power & The Myth' will "grow" with you in time, but to call it "House of Lords" is hard to digest. There is some good material on here, no doubt. The keyboardists on this album are all top-notch, no doubt. But the inspiration just is not there. Christian vocals lack any & all feeling through much of the record & the dry modern production gets me thirsty just thinking about it. It's not the money lost in purchasing this cd that bothers me, it's the time & disappointment in waiting for it.

From: Jonny_B Date: September 2, 2004 at 13:33
After borrowing my friend's copy, I can say I'm glad I saved my money. James Christian saved the better tracks for his second solo album.

From: Wotty Date: September 3, 2004 at 9:17
Not a patch on the mighty debut,or Sahara come to think of it.Very inconsitant,DISAPPOINTING......

From: Geoff Date: September 5, 2004 at 1:35
This is just a shame of a CD. Whilst I don't mind the first two songs and feel they both had choruses waiting to explode, it is very un-HOL-ish to let them pass... but it sets the idea for the rest of the album - what seems like a plan, to pass on any chance for good melody and a great song. I don't mind 'Man who I am' either, but overall the songs here are just boring, and as said above - sparkless.

From: VEGASMETAL Date: September 7, 2004 at 4:39
TOTAL CRAP!! I'm sorry people but in 2004 this should have been a killer comeback - i think Giuffria being absent hurt but considering the other talent involved here you have to shake your heads in disappointment. James sounds totally soulless and the band is going for the stoopid "middle eastern" vibe that some bands are trying to re-vitalize...it sounded crap when Zep did it (who also were TOTALLY OVERRATED) so why should these guys do it?? No hooks , little melodies...NO NO NO...

From: VEGASMETAL Date: September 7, 2004 at 4:41
Again we must look to mainland Europe for the best music in the world. Why listen to this crap when you can listen to bands like Royal Hunt , Nightwish , Evil Masquerade , Sonata Arctica and Ten?? America again shows its weakness - SHAME SHAME SHAME.

From: rocker Date: September 7, 2004 at 6:12
n the mccaslin bros who've joined cult yank rockers misstress will set the world straight on how to rock, the american way ! bring it on !

From: Kip Date: September 16, 2004 at 13:31
Today is a great song! I love the feel of the chorus. I understand what Geoff means about waiting for the songs to take off. It lacks a flair. Overall a solid CD in my opinion.

From: CHRIS Date: October 1, 2004 at 10:19
I can not understand, how 5 supermusicians like these, can compose 3 brilliant albums, and after 10 years of more experience can come back with such a boring one.Greg Giuffria is missed indeed...What a pitty

From: motley_69 Date: October 3, 2004 at 3:36
K, NOTHING will compare to Demons Down, so with that in mind, this CD is pretty damn good I think. After readingthe reviews, and wanting to form my own opinion, I threw caution to the wind and just bought it. I'm not dissapointed, and I feel the money, well spent. I just compare it to ANYTHING else commingout nowadays, and it's bloody brilliant haha. Although it ain't no Demons Down, it's also not 1990 anymore. Good for hat it is. House of Lords 2004.

From: ChrisSlade Date: December 18, 2004 at 21:38
You can replace any members of this band EXCEPT James and Greg. With either one of them missing from the line-up and the classic HOL sound is gone. This release shows just that...very dissapointing, indeed.

From: Lennart Date: January 3, 2005 at 15:58
This album is to flat!!

From: Rich Date: January 3, 2005 at 20:37
With no sign of touring, this was another buy and out to dry

From: howe Date: January 6, 2005 at 8:06
I can't believe you guys! THIS ALBUM IS GREAT!!! New ideas, new vibe, new progressive sound (w/ an oriental touch in some tracks). "Man who I am" (a fantastic mid-tempo ballad) and "The rapture" are my favorite tracks so far. 8/10

From: z4roxx Date: January 6, 2005 at 12:31
My cousin told me that is not good this other reunion cult band(as always happen about these reunion bands).By the way I think I'll buy it only because they are HOUSE OF LORDS!!!!!!!!

From: Wotty Date: January 6, 2005 at 12:40
Yes it is the House of Lords. But without a very important member !!!!

From: z4roxx Date: January 6, 2005 at 13:38
Wotty you're right. At this point we can do a cd under the name of Iron Maiden without any Maiden members ahahahahahaha!!!tha's a shame!I don t know which of old members there's in this cd...

From: Wotty Date: January 6, 2005 at 14:05
Hey z4roxx.Although the keys are present on the album, with this band it's who's playing them. They seemed to want a more modern sound...

From: GXRX (ROLI) Date: January 7, 2005 at 17:37
This is fuckin shit !!!! I hate this album very poor

From: Metal God Date: January 10, 2005 at 18:20
This New HOL is really great. If you are going to be jerk and compare it to the other 3 then you will be disappointed. Hair Metal Bands have to also know when to change their sound a bit to be with the sign of the times. No Giuffria? Maybe that's a good thing. I love giuffria but he was a control freak, now you can here the expansion of creativity in this new CD. This should have been released years ago. Hail To The New House Of Lords

From: howe Date: January 11, 2005 at 8:08
Amen!!!

From: Rich Date: January 13, 2005 at 21:30
I like house of lords and just would like to see them again. Don't you like to see a band you invest your money in?

From: F_T_C Date: February 4, 2005 at 4:26
This is NOT House Of Lords... Just a poor ordinary progressive with some alternative soundings. Total disappointment.

From: Zinatra99gt Date: February 18, 2005 at 17:09
Wow. Lots of mixed reviews here. When an album is good, its good, but when its bad, its bad. This album...one song is good, and then it shifts to bad.........for the rest of its entirity. I mean I love this group. But this and Gene Simmon's album are by far two the worst I have heard. This cd is powerless, and my now I think Zeus would've shot a lightning bolt at this thing. I am hoping that Europe didn't make the very same mistake as this. I been hearing mixed reviews on that one too.

From: ace66 Date: February 26, 2005 at 22:07
IMO this album is great!!Great and strong songwriting and maybe slight weak production.Listen with an open mind.Europe and Tesla have the same case.

From: ninjapeter Date: August 6, 2005 at 1:45
If you are comparing this to there other releases it's not very good but on it's own it is not bad. This one does have a little more modern sound to it with all the sound effects which I could live without. I wish they would go back to there previous song writing but I still like this too. I just wouldn't jump up and down about it. I would rate this 7/10 and there previous three albums 9.5/10.

Millon Miles, pedazo d tema, igual q All The Way To Heaven, y medios tiempos sensacionales como: Field Of Shattered Dreams y Your Eyes, pero me kedo con Ghost Of Time, es mi Super Favorita!!!

From: ROBERT Date: September 29, 2006 at 12:27
Y d este, ni una!! Solo faltaria, dejandose Joyazas como se van a dejar!!! Podria caer alguna del Genial RUDE AWAKENING en solitario del James!!

From: Axe-Machine Date: February 27, 2007 at 7:33
This is certainly the black sheep of the House of Lords back catalogue, and is undeniably their weakest album to date. The fact is that after such a long absence they failed to deliver what the fans wanted, and suffered as a result. Fortunately, James Christian and the new line up corrected the problem with 'World Upside Down'. The musicians on this record are unbelivably talented, but if they wanted to record stuff like this, it certainly shouldn't have been released under the HoL moniker. 3/10

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 1, 2007 at 22:08

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 1, 2007 at 22:15

From: hair metal again Date: October 30, 2009 at 2:20
not bad,not bad.this the hol comeback after 12 years and i m very happy about it.this is different than the previous 3 releases and it has a different direction.it s no modern as stated above, more rock with some orient elements i think.i expected more ,but the result is acceptable with songs like "mind trip","child of rage","the man who i am" and"all is gone".good album

From: 123charpenay Date: August 28, 2015 at 3:36
after three monster records ,three classic of hard f m there is here a very strange come back with modern vibes and oriental sound!!!!twelve years of attempt for that!!! it s a pity.
