Great AOR/ POP ROCK album from mid 80s. A lot of radio hits. For me it's great album and a lot of good memories. Every track on this cd is great.10/10

I agree with you Peter ! Not a 10, but a good AOR effort !

Paul Kantner cramped their pop style with his left wing lyrics and far-out concepts ("I Came Back from the Jaws of the Dragon" on Winds of Change and "Rose Goes to Yale" on Nuclear Furniture). Clearly, this was two bands in one. Until the Kantner-free "Knee Deep", which concentrates solely on great summertime pop/rock. And the hits are wonderful alright. But unfortunately, by the filler-filled end of this CD, I almost wanted to hear some of that Kantner-style political weirdness.

Decent pop rock CD. I especially enjoy the first three tracks. If you like your AOR soft and poppy you should get this one.

"Tomorrow doesn't matter tonight" and "Sara" is great but overall this is a bit (how should I say) nerdy for me. More pop than A.O.R. and not very satisfying for me.. But Mickey Thomas is great as always, an underrated man.. 6/10

The first album to be released under the 'Starship' moniker, so i suppose a change in sound should be expected. At the time, 'We Built This City' was all over the radio, and isn't a bad track, the Michael Bolton 'Desperate Dreams' (also on 'Everybodys Crazy' in much better form) is also good along with 'Sara' . The rest was a disappointment, and compared to the glories of 'Freedom At Point Zero', 'Winds Of Change' and 'Modern Times' you can honestly say this is pretty average Pop/Rock stuff.

Even they've often been a target of the pop culture geeks at VH1 (Of course, what do they know? They attack Michael Bolton because he's not "metal", then they attack him because he DID play metal in the 70s), this version of the band always seemed to have a good song, as each of the Starship albums had at least two songs I'd consider classics.

I really quite like this stuff, and would listen to it over a Beau Coup, I-Ten or Drive She Said album anyday! Yes, it's rather whussy, but the songs are great! I love 'Sara, 'Tomorrow doesn't matter tonight' and the 2 killers 'Desperate heart' (done well by Bolton too) and the beautiful 'Before I go'. This is very nice AOR and I even admit I like 'We built this city'! Very good AOR and better than a lot of supposed 'classic' IMO.

From: AOR freaky Date: November 1, 2005 at 7:25
Geoff, this is nice radiofriendly AOR, but it misses the class and the songs that makes I-Ten, Drive She Said and Beau Coup CLASSIC stuff, my friend ! You are NOT the one to tell us what classic AOR is all about, I'm afraid. Stick to your straight ahead, no-nonsense hardrock. That's where your heart is beating ! My heart is beating for class AOR, mate, just as PAUL's one is, and many others on these pages ! Keep rockin' !

From: Geoff Date: November 1, 2005 at 19:28
Sorry Freaky, again of course my opinion is invalid because I don't like the same stuff as you. And didn't I just spend 5 posts on Y & T saying how much I don't like "straight ahead no-nonsense hard rock"??? How can I listen to that when I'm listening to alternate and nu-breed the whole time? Isn't that all I like? I know I hate melodic hard rock, I've made that clear, but seriously Freaky, just set me straight once and for all.

From: poproxx2007 Date: March 9, 2006 at 3:07
I agree with Andrew. Those Pop Culture geeks are not speaking for the true fans of AOR. If it's something I hold dear or love, you can bet those no talents will nail it to the cross. Some of this is corny but you cant deny when something is cathcy or has great hooks. All the indie artists everyone said were so great around this time like Replacements, Husker Du etc is horrible imo. I would listen to Starship and Bolton over REM anyday of the week. I like Sara and Desperate Heart here. Decent out

From: aor4sale Date: August 25, 2009 at 9:59
Starships first album (as it where - dropping the Jefferson for legal reasons) and adopting a smooth Hi-Tech AOR feel that really cannot be bettered. With the songwriters who got together for this one it is no wonder it is great. I would loved to have seen them live during this period.

From: Doghouse Reilly Date: July 22, 2012 at 1:27
"We Built This City ..." what an introduction to the new Jefferson Airplane. One of the worst songs ever recorded ... and it was a huge HIT! The instant that synthesized bassline starts going "Boing, boing!" I want to put my fist through a wall. Fuck the rest of the disc too. How 'bout that?

From: hair metal again Date: July 20, 2015 at 2:06
excellent pop rock debut by STARSHIP that could be better if they let Greg have a stronger role in their sound!anyway this one is a multi million seller with "sara","we built this city" and a part of our youth for sure!classic
