If you notice that a particular Helix CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. I think this might be the best Helix album since 'Long Way to Heaven' (1985). As many know Helix is a second-tier band that has has a history of having a couple good songs per album, as the only disc I own by them is 'Over 60 Minutes With' (1989) which covers their best territory. The songs on 'Bastard of the Blues' compared to their last decade are bigger sounding (beefier production),harmonies galore, with lyrics that are concise and catchy( exhibit A:'Metal at Midnight'). 'Even Jesus (Wasn't Loved in His Hometown)' describes how the band didn't get much attention in their local Ontario,Canada and had to hit the road. When the band was first signed to Capitol Records they where originally rejected by them 3 times, before releasing their debut 'No Rest for the Wicked'(1983). Brian Vollmer is no spring chicken as the band has been kicking around for 40 years. With age he's lost a bit of range as expected, but the first 3 tracks are strong on 'Bastard', with filler at a minimum.

$$ixx - are you the bastard love child on a budget of Gene $immons and Nikki Sixx? 'I don't agree with wise ass Metallian stallion at all' Your review of this album totally agrees with my assessment? (Wise with a great Ass by the way). Go to Over 60 minutes Best of album and half of those songs are 'average' filler.Example: Animal House,Everybody Pays the Price,Dirty Dog, White Lace and Black Leather (need I go on?)

Another good album by Helix. This is just good, staright ahead, fun, party time rock n roll. If you have heard and enjoyed Helix's latest albums then you will enjoy this one. Good stuff!

Yes, this is a good album again by Helix. Around 60 yrs old, but still kickin' ass, very cool live act too. Three very good studio CDs in a row now, just like Scorpions

Oh man, this album puts a big smile on your face. Professional musicanship, good production and catchy tunes. I had 5 Helix cd´s (´83-´90) before this one and just wanted to hear if the band is still good enough. Well, it is. Now i have some work to do and will get The Power of Rock and Roll and Vagabond Bones next.

From: MelodicRocker Date: November 16, 2015 at 5:39
I thought Helix didn't have it in them anymore, but since The Power of Rock and Roll they are back on top again, most killers no fillers really (if you're a Helix fan like me)! aTomiK, good move, you'll be happy with The Power of Rock and Roll and especially Vagabond Bones!
