This album is a killer! for me this was their return! They're back in shape and this time sticking to their roots! Pure heavy metal with great melodies! Nice to hear Mike scream on this album. Probably trying to get a breakthru' internationally but it works just fine. Akira, as always, plays those over-the-top solos...take the title track for instance..How does he come up with that? Really good production especially the guitars. Their raw as hell! Killer album...BUY NOW!

From: vicrock Date: August 13, 2003 at 19:00
One of the best two records of hard rock of the 80s, i really thing so, honest. All the songs are fine, melodic and rockers, the guitar solos wow, i have no words to descrive Akira Takasaki work, Mike vescera is unique, sutile. Its a dream of rocknroll

Soldier of Fortune Rocks! This is the Beat Loudness CD ever! and On The Prowl is a close second! There is not a track on it I do not like, all are great songs...

From: dinoman1967 Date: May 11, 2004 at 18:01
you shook me...... ENOUGH SAID! nobody, and i mean NOBODY pulls off that "dive bombing whammy" sound like akira! listening to that song STILL hurts my neck today! i saw him do it live and he didn't miss a note! unbelievable! can anybody suggest other flashy guitar players? (other than malmsteen, lynch, van halen, etc)

From: Endika Date: May 26, 2004 at 8:56
A great metal cd,great song and most of the solos yngwie malmsteen steele. Great disc,in my opinion the best cd of Loudness- Michael Vescera, has a great voice, and his voice says all. 9,5/10

From: Gar Date: May 28, 2004 at 13:48
I'd been hearing great things about this one for years, so I finally picked it up. Indeed it is good, though not the masterpiece I was expecting. I was a little let down, but this is still worth getting if the price is right.

From: CHRIS Date: June 18, 2004 at 13:49
While i liked the earlier albums with the original singer and the later albums with Mr. masaki(ex-EZO). I have to admit that i much prefer the albums with Micheal Vescara singing. He brings a raw in your face metal attitude to loudness that the other japenese singers just never achieved. this is one of the most under rated albums to ever hit the shores of U.S.A. Japenese metal kicks butt!!!.

From: jack Date: September 10, 2004 at 7:49
Akira takasaki would well easily be a japanese george lynch or randy rhoads with added attitude, passion, style and skill. On the prowl, soldier of fortune and demon disease are all godly kick-ass songs. This kind of album is just what australia needed back then, not some stupid album produced by candy harlot. ratings:9.5/10

From: Geoff Date: September 13, 2004 at 0:01
Why Candy Harlots were bought up here I am not sure. And no offence to Jack, but I think the Candy Harlots did a lot better with their great CD than this CD released by an Aussie band ever would have done. Either way, this is a great CD, the guitar is mind-blowing, and songs like the title track, 'Red light shooter' and 'Danger of love' are killer slabs of hard rock. '25 days' is a great ballad too. Overall, a very good hard rock CD!

From: jack Date: September 17, 2004 at 3:51
Candy harlots is an embarrassment to my country-i never understand the media back then labelled them as australia's answer to poison. Our country were never known for producing good glam metal or heavy metal bands. All we produce are pop rock shits like divinyls, proclaimers,1927 etc. Of course ac/dc were extremely good but they weren't even a glam band.

From: Geoff Date: September 19, 2004 at 0:45
Well, as an Aussie myself I am far from embarrassed by the Candy Harlots. I think they were a very good band, Roxus were sensational and Safire were pretty cool too. Ice Tiger were great and if you look hard enough, there are a few. Candy Harlots were a lot better than many... BB Steal were clones, but sensational regardless...

Anyone here heard of the song geraldine and eruption by the loudness? Cause i've heard them in their greatest hit compilation and was wondering which year it came out and which album was it on?

From: z4roxx Date: February 26, 2005 at 18:59
Jack,I've checked all Loudness'discography and I can say you that I think both songs are inedit...

From: Fat Freddy Date: October 12, 2006 at 10:52
When Mike Vescera joined Loudness, they lost some of the "character" that made them so unique IMHO. Yea, so Minoru Niihara's English was garbled and the lyrics weren't exactly Shakespeare but MAN could he WAIL! SOLDIER OF FORTUNE isn't as lame as the follow up, ON THE PROWL, but it can't hold a candle to the mighty THUNDER IN THE EAST or LIGHTNING STRIKES. With an American on the mike, Loudness sounds like a plain ol' nothin'special hard rock band (exception: the amazing single, "You Shook Me")

From: dave Date: August 1, 2007 at 9:59
El Mejor disco de loudness mike vescera is great singer

From: YNGWIEVIKING Date: October 10, 2007 at 2:03
GOOD CD 90/100 even if it's a totally different band with MIKE VESCERA ! they lost some kind of magic but they win some fans in the STATES&EUROPE ! GOOD ANYWAY

Album with Mike Vescera on vocals (Yngwie Malmsteen fame)packed with great songs such as the opener and the one that gives the album the title "Soldier Of Fortune","You Shook Me","Danger Of Love"(some kind of AOR in here)...one album to take account on...88/100

From: hair metal again Date: November 11, 2015 at 2:57
superb release by LOUDNESS with Mike Vescera on vocs and Max Norman in production!great guitar riffs ,big choruses and excellent vocals ,all served in a great sound !"soldier of fortune","danger of love","twenty-five days","long after midnight"!bought it when it was released and enjoyed it much!

From: Eric Date: April 23, 2022 at 17:11
Three first songs are fabulous hard rock in every way!, you just have to love the killer guitars of Mr Akira Takasaki, ultrafast yet very clean and melodic solos and brutal riffing (just wow!) and Vescera is very high in his performance here, great power vocals! Some filler material perhaps, but the start of the album is classic and not to be missed. Max Norman does his sound very well, as usual, (yet lacking just a little bit of that bottom end, btw likely adjusted in the limited edition remaster by Warner Music Japan in 2020). It was further very very cool that they did a single and very special show at 2015's edition of the Loud Park festival in Japan, billed as "Soldier of fortune" and not Loudness, bringing back Vescera for the lead vocals to celebrate the songs they did with him some 2,5 decades earlier. Loudness did not break the US market, but still has sold millions of albums in Japan during more than 40 years. Legends.

Cheers to fellow rockers. Just came here to say that if you ever found the original mix a little too much on the treble side, lacking bottom/bass warmth, please check out the other original mix. It's called "Rough Mix" (disc 2), was mastered in 2020 by Ryuichi Tanaka at Warner Music Mastering Tokyo and sounds taken from an original master copy. This album has always been stellar, but personally I like this original ("rough") first mix the best and rough is not a suitable word; the mix is in fact very good!! First songs are probably the best, but a rather consistent album with killer vocals and guitarist Akira Takasaki in SUPER form! Great Warner Music Japan Box Set – WPZL-31779/82 SOLDIER OF FORTUNE 30th ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION
