From: WidoMakr Date: January 7, 2002 at 19:12
This band is one of the best to ever make music....The first album i feel is better than the second...Fifth Angel and Wings of Destiny are 2 of the most powerful tunes u will ever hear....shame they arent together anymore

From: Drag-in-Bones Date: March 4, 2002 at 0:50
Wicked riffing and flashy yet tasteful solos, melodic yet heavy in style always bring to mind "Maiden"

From: Wild Kenny Date: April 19, 2002 at 20:02
A very good cd between class and power epic metal. Between early Dokken and Iron Maiden. My favorites are 1)Fade to flames 2)In the fallout. Two songs very galloping. It's time to call the Fifth Angel again after all those years. I gave them 8,5.

From: WidoMakr Date: April 20, 2002 at 4:51
Wild Kenny..while I respect your liking of Fifth Angel..HOW CAN U NOT INCLUDE the songs Fifth Angel and Wings Of Destiny???..we all talk out our A$$ about songs being powerful and all but I DEFY anyone to listen to those 2 songs and not BE BLOWN away...believe me it takes I feel a great song to make me feel that way and this album has 2 of them..the rest of the album is great but IMO these 2 are major league kick ASS!!..and only a 8.5?? they get an 11 in my book..Quote the WidoMakr....never more

From: Joep Date: July 17, 2002 at 6:01
It is a very good album. I bought it in 1986 or so (Netherlands, Europe), but it has a different albumcover than displayed above. On my cover you can see a big flying horse ascending, surrounded by hundreds of small horses.

From: shadowrider Date: August 1, 2002 at 13:01
Fantastic album, better than the second for my taste.I agree with widowmaker fifth angel and wings of destiny are the best songs.I have bought recently some james byrd's albums and they are very good although not as good as this one.

SUPERMASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!

From: Warlordy Date: January 16, 2003 at 12:56
Maybe you poser guys (sic) like their 2nd album more but I just wanted to scream out that this is one of the finest 80s us heavy/power metal examples and any record collection of that kind should have it alongside Queensryche,Vicious Rumours,Heir Aparrent, etc. Listen to this god-given record when you got the blues and next moment you'll feel like the king of the world (maybe you are,who knows) An absolute 10 on Warlordy's scale!

From: bazjoe0 Date: February 14, 2003 at 4:13

This is one of the best 80's Metal Bands I've ever heard. Unfortunately, they were "before their time".Growing up in Seattle and having many friends in the "music scene",I've seen muscians come and go.Fifth Angel truly had talent, was well put together & at the time of 80's metal, was very under-rated,really should have been one of the hottest bands.Fortunately, their talent expands the years and they are just as enjoyable today as they were 20 years ago.If you love true rock-you'll love this

From: Kyle Date: December 6, 2003 at 0:14
This album deserves credit in metal history! Almost every song gives a dark and sombre-esque melodic appeal, though still akin to the 80's era of metal...great compositions. "Shout It out" and "Fifth Angel" are good examples. James Byrd's guitaring style is quite appealing, but not as good as what he does on "Time Will Tell" (their 2nd album), or on his solo projects. Nonetheless, it is an album recommended for anyone interested in the early beginnings of the darker side of metal.

From: Kyle Date: December 6, 2003 at 0:27
I think this album had a more 'modern' glamm-ish sound to it, but it is still fantastic. James Byrd's guitaring was absolutely incredible. And you have to give them great credits on their remake of Schenker's song "Lights Out". This album is another must for any 80's metal fan.

From: Ted Pilot Date: December 15, 2003 at 3:47
Thanks for all the great messages!! It's great to know that our music is still being heard.

From: infinity Date: December 22, 2003 at 8:16

To Mr. T. Pilot...if that really was you..and I want to believe it was.as you can see from my remarks in the past about your band I think you were absolutely fantastic..not a week goes by I dont listen to Fifth Angel and Wings Of Destiny..truely amazingly powerful songs...im sure I speak for many..any chance of ever getting the band back together? Im sure you know that there are TONS of people that would love to hear you guys again..Myself at the top of the list..Quote the Widomakr....Never More

Ispired songs, brilliant solos, epic attitude in every way. This is amongst the Heavy Metal elite...

From: tyrantula Date: February 4, 2004 at 13:29
one of my favorite metal albums of all time. There are a lot of highlights on here way too many to mention but check out the marathon scream/yell closing out the song In the Fallout and the solo in Shout it Out. Awesome cd!!

From: Dean Date: February 4, 2004 at 14:39
Tyrantula- you are so full of shit you wouldn't know a good solo if it hit you in the head- oh hi Rob- told ya it was a cool site. Hopefully see you at practice tonite. Btw-this disc has some awesome melodies on it. I still like the other one better-though.

From: Lk771 Date: February 27, 2004 at 14:21
Hey insurance geek, Did you ever see Rebel,Gypsy Rose, Steel Sea,Dragon,Phase or Helms Deep? They were all local 80's hard rock/heavy metal bands from the Seattle/Vancouver B.C areas. None of them ever got signed but they were all killer! What about Teaser from Bremerton? Seattle's 80's local metal scene was never that great though unlike when the grunge thing kicked in. I completely lost interest in the local scene in late '92 or so. Most of the cool clubs had closed down by then.Grunge!

From: MIKE S Date: March 9, 2004 at 16:59
An absolute classic! I still own the original Shrapnel Records release with the Pegasus artwork that I purchased new when this was first released in 1986. Pure metal bliss! They sure don't make 'em like this anymore! Eleven on a scale of 10.

From: Rob Babcock Date: May 10, 2004 at 22:38
This one is pure genius, one of the finest metal albums of the 80's. This is one of my "desert island" discs, meaning if I could only have 25 CDs, this would be one of them. Ted Pilot is a tremedous singer, and Archer & Byrd are joined at the hip. The songs on this one are uniformly excellent, while standouts like "Fade To Flames" & "Call Out The Warning" cement their standing as an elite metal band. I've got the original CD, but I also got the reissue, 'just in case'- can't risk losing it!

From: Criss Date: May 12, 2004 at 23:43
Not a week goes by that I do not listen to this CD (as well as the 2nd release without Byrd). Once I just left the tape in my car deck back in 86 for like months and just listened to it everytime I drove. These tunes are timeless. I also credit WSOU NJ for first turning me onto "Wings of Destiny" things were not the same after I heard this tune. I got a similar feeling when I first heard "Seven Seas" by TNT. Mr. Pilot is an awesome vocalist with sheer emotion. He is a Dentist now in Seattle.

From: CHRIS Date: June 13, 2004 at 23:41
You know i have always preffered european bands because in the last 13 or 14 years all american music has sucked. My other friends who listen to this kind of music only want to listen to the 80's "flav-o-month" like poison, bon jovi and the like. FIFTH ANGEL just goes to show "commercially viable and actually good" do not co-exist in U.S.A. I guess some people you just can't reach.

From: John Macko Date: June 17, 2004 at 17:42
A re-union or short tour is all up to ted pilot...I know if he was motivated, the rest of us would most certainly step up to the plate. I think the only way mr.pilot would consider doing anything is if all you fans make enough noise!

From: Metal_Warrior Date: June 17, 2004 at 21:02
Perhaps mr Macho or Mr Pilot could give as some address at which we could contact them?

From: john macko Date: June 21, 2004 at 10:23

From: Glenn VanWiddle Date: July 29, 2004 at 18:23
Both albums are dead good! How good is the band's title anthem? DA DAA DA DAA DA DAA! etc. If you like melodic metal with lots of guitars that go 'chug chug' (and why not?) you'll love these guys. CD reissues would be nice - any news?

From: Date: August 7, 2004 at 20:20

From: Lucie Renee Date: August 31, 2004 at 23:56
I absolutely LOVE Fifth Angel's music. I really and truly wish that they would get back together for another CD. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on any of their videos? How about the lyrics? I've seen a few requests for lyrics, but no replies. I started listening to Fifth Angel way back in High School before it was cool to listen to that type of music. The band got air play on 94WHJY out of Providence RI on Dr. Metal's Show. Fifth Angel will live on forever in our hearts. OOXXOX

I´M FROM MEXICO CITY. I FIRST LISTENED TO FIFTH ANGEL BACK IN 1987 AND FOR ME IS ONE OF THE BEST VANGUARDIST BANDS, THEIR SOUND, VOCALS, ARRANGEMENTS ARE ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHING AND THEIR LEGACY WON´T DISAPPEAR IN MANY YEARS TO COME, I´M SURE OF THAT!!!!!!! TAKE CARE METAL HEADS AND KEEP THE METAL FLAME BURNING FOREVER!!!!!!!

From: Geoff Date: February 20, 2005 at 6:32
Very good melodic metal disc... like Leatherwolf, this debut is quite good, but IMO not anywhere near comparable to the stellar peice of melodic hard rock that was to follow.

From: robert arenz Date: February 23, 2005 at 6:50
what can i say about fifth angel.they are a classic heavy metal band for the ages.it's a damn shame they broke up because they were going places.both albums are great.i mean great sound, blistering guitar work, dynamic vocals, and killer drums.i'm shocked that they did not re-unite and tour like all these "80"s metal bands did.it would be great to see this band live someday.who knows they might one day

Jajajaa..buena. "Call Out the Warning" "Wings of Destiny" "The Night"(mi favorita por ser super-Heavy) y "Only The Strong Survive" las mejores. Gran disco. 8.8/10

I had this on vinyl years ago and then sold it for some reason. I bought the CD again on ebay last year, listened to it and remembered why I sold it before and sold it on again. It's not that I'm violently opposed to it, it's just that it's not very sophisticated. There's lots of shouty vocals, thumping music and squealy guitar. Great if you like that sort of thing. 'In The Fallout' is probably the most memorable track on here and you know there's gotta be a video on YouTube of them with their fingerless leather gloves, miming on some landfill site and pointing at the camera. 50/100.

From: shoemaker Date: August 28, 2008 at 11:34
Oh je, please "Mr.Dare" take the shit out of your ears. This is heavy metal in its best form, not AOR! The guitars have to shred and the vocals are clean and strong. Go home, listen to DAREs weak latest albums!

From: aTomiK Date: August 28, 2008 at 14:09

Just had to drop by the GREATEST Hard Rock message board to announce something that I never thought I would read in my lifetime....Fifth Angel are preparing a reunion, all the main players from the first two amazing albums are in place less the drummer....release is scheduled for sometime early 2010..if they stay true to their roots and don't try to go "a different path" or "grow" as so many reunion bands try and fail miserably, this should be another GREAT album...destined to be another classic. Quote the WidoMakr...Never More

From: BDrums1971 Date: September 6, 2010 at 3:12
Wow, a lot of comments on this one. I LOVE the second release, time will tell. So, when I checked this one out, I was a little disappointed. The songs were not quite as good, I thought, but the big thing for me, was that I really loved the guitar work in Time Will Tell. I loved the tone, the solos, and the overall quality of playing. The guitarist for this album seemed a little more metal oriented, and not quite as polished. Still good listening, but if this is good, the second release is stellar. Kendall Bechtell is really one hell of a guitarist, and that put TWT over the top for me. This one...8.5 out of 10.

excellent metal debut for FIFTH ANGEL the way metal should be!razor riffs, anthemic songs ,howling vocals and great looks are offered in plenty with songs like "in the fallout","call out the warning","wings of destiny"!essential and still cant believe im gonna catch their newest edition live in a couple of months

When I am asked about the most under rated heavy metal cd of the 80s this is the CD I always choose. Every track on this cd is a banger! If you like NWOBHM/European 80s metal, this band nails it (even though they are a American band.) If you can find this album at a decent price get it!
