If you see any errors or omissions in the CD information shown above, either in the musician credits or song listings (cover song credits, live tracks, etc.), please post them in the corrections section of the Heavy Harmonies forum/message board.

The music discographies on this site are works in progress. If you notice that a particular Vain CD release or compilation is missing from the list above, please submit that CD using the CD submission page. The ultimate goal is to make the discographies here at Heavy Harmonies as complete as possible. Even if it is an obscure greatest-hits or live compilation CD, we want to add it to the site. Please only submit official CD releases; no bootlegs or cassette-only or LP-only releases.

EPs and CD-singles from Vain are also welcome to be added, as long as they are at least 4 songs in length.

It started with a “Pledge Music” campaign launched on 27th January 2016 with an album to be released on April 14th that year…but it took quite a lot longer for the band’s 7th LP (including “All Those Strangers”) to be released in 2017. The same lineup would return (although it’s unclear if Danny West is still in the band,as he wasn’t credited here) from their highly acclaimed 6th LP (“Enough Rope”) which many critics considered to be the best offering since the band’s debut in 1989 (“No Respect”). The remaining lineup all appeared on that debut LP: Davy Vain (v/g), Jamie Scott (g), Ashley Mitchell (b), and Tommy Rickard (d), and they’ve been making a concentrated effort of bringing back the original sleazy style of the debut since their “Fade (LP)” from 1995 (albeit still a strong effort in itself with Psychedelic tendencies). This LP has been considered by many critics as the direct successor to “No Respect” (although I need more time to decide if I like it better than “Enough Rope” f

from 2011 or not). And although there is nothing to match the grandeur of the debut, there is plenty of material here that can only really be described as ‘top notch’. This was an incredibly strong album that would once again light the flame of many long, lost fans. How good is ‘Rolling With the Punches’? Well it’s very, very good indeed and there’s no doubting the quality here, with the only knock perhaps being the thin production and varying sonic differences in some of the tracks. So the naysayers will probably not pay attention, and the true fans will find everything they love about VAIN here. Here’s hoping those in-between at least give “Rolling With the Punches” a whirl. A lot of bands from that era gave up over time, and they should have. VAIN is not one of those bands. I’ve seen alternate cover-art for this release (this version is better imo) although it may have been the original intended art that may have been scratched (although uncertain).
