Like an extension of Foreigner, but with better Guitars. Good cd to listen to, but don't haul ass out the door to find it! Get it in a cheapie bin at the pawn shop for a buck.

From: Tony Date: April 11, 2002 at 4:27
Horrible just horrible. Yeah fine guitar playing but it comes across like all these guys "b" songs they had just lying around. Guarantee you'll listen to it once and it will collect dust.

From: Desslar Date: April 11, 2002 at 11:54
The best album Foreigner never made. 100 times better than that Unusual Heat crap. Excellent.

From: Charlie G Date: April 14, 2002 at 10:25
Great album indeed !!! Sorry to say Tony ,mine didn't collect any dust ... I listen to it all the time !!! It really rocks !! Great performances by Lou Gramm and Vivian Campbell .. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for AOR fans !!! See ya !!!!!

From: curt Date: May 5, 2002 at 13:12
Yea I have to agree with Charlie. This album was pretty damn good. vivian kicks major but and Lou tears it up vocally. Would of liked to see them put out another. Along with Charlie, mine didn't collect dust either.

From: Reno Date: May 28, 2002 at 20:35
I love this cd!! Vivian Campbell is an awesome guitarist and kicks ass on all he does. Lou Gramm has one of the best voices in rock. Put them together and you have one hell of a cd. Check it out if you can.

From: Kim Date: June 1, 2002 at 0:15
Great cd. Very ubderrated. It should have been a massive seller. By the way, I just bought the new Primal Fear.............Damn heavy and damn good release.

From: freddy de keyze Date: August 25, 2002 at 9:36
This is a materpiece, even better than most Foreigner CD's (except 1). If a record comes close to perfection, well this is one of these records. Listen to 'What Would It Take' or ' This Heart Of Stone ' and it will blow you away !!!!! To Tony, if this is horrible, then you're not an AOR or melodic fan. This is ESSENTIAL !!! A REAL MUST ! One of the best CD's ever !!!!! BUY !!!!!!!!

From: Richard H Date: September 27, 2002 at 11:15
A really awesome piece of work that features Vocalist extrordinaire Lou Gramm and Guitar virtuoso Vivian Campbell(ex-Dio,Riverdogs,Whitesnake,current Def Leppard). The two really get to shine here with great songs and musicianship.A highly recommended AOR album.Check out the tracks "Once Upon A Time","What Would It Take"< and "No Man's Land".Foreigner on steroids.

From: Richard H Date: September 27, 2002 at 11:19
By the way ,who catergorized this as glam? no way sir.And to Tony......sorry you didn't like this but my copy never collected dust.

From: freddy de keyze Date: October 14, 2002 at 3:57
Indeed, who categorized this as glam ? ? ? What an error, does that person know what glam , AOR etc. means. Man, this is brilliant AOR/hardrock, not even a sign of glam !!!!! And to Tony, go to the doctor, man. You have nu clue about great music !

From: robert Date: October 23, 2002 at 20:05

From: J Scott Date: October 28, 2002 at 19:30
I guess I agree with Tony. guitar work is great but overall lack-luster effort from these guys. Nothing memorable about this one.

From: JAVIER Date: December 16, 2002 at 4:05
TONY, YOU DON´T KNOW A WORD ABOUT GOOD MUSIC

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: February 26, 2003 at 18:33

From: 9 CHAMPIONS A 1 Date: February 26, 2003 at 18:48

From: Troy Date: June 27, 2003 at 10:35
I have to say that I still enjoy this CD. I like it much more than current Foreigner and find that it has stood the test of time. I thought the production could have been better, but the overall songcraft and performances were very good. Any one looking for a good rockin' time and a pleasant surprise should check this out. Mine doesn't collect any dust either as it is in the cd player often.

From: wayne barham Date: July 14, 2003 at 17:50
i think this album is superb with great vocals from lou and awesome guitar work from vivian campbell. The album is more heavier than foreigners music which is the way i like it.There is no weak song on the album but some classics what would it take, once upon a time are my favs.9 out of 10.

From: Scandinavia Date: August 29, 2003 at 7:25
The melodies keep this album up...The sound is VERY restrained though...Perhaps the typical attempt to create listener friendly music with high chart position possibilities...It would have been better to make a more hard-edged & guitar-driven sound here in my opinion...

From: aormilwaukee Date: October 31, 2003 at 10:54
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED C.D FOR AOR FANS!!!! TOTALY A CLASSIC!!! IF YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AN AOR FAN YOU MUST OWN A COPY OF THIS C.D. A GREAT C.D WITH NO FILLERS THE MORE I LISTEN TO IT THE MORE I LIKE IT. A MUST HAVE!!!! 10/10

From: Gar Date: October 31, 2003 at 15:05
Can't highly recommend this, but if you are a fan of Foreigner or even Lou Gramm's solo work this is worth checking out. For me, none of the songs really stood out. It's a pretty good release, but it lacked any songs that really blew me away given the talent involved.

From: LUCA67 Date: November 23, 2003 at 8:22
NO GLAM MELODIC AOR METAL grande album dal grande leader dei FOREIGNER Lou Gramm e dal guitars Vivian Campbell un Gran Supergruppo obbligato almeno ascoltarlo 10/10 for me LUCA67

From: AOR freaky Date: November 24, 2003 at 5:17
Indeed no glam (how is it possible that someone has categorized this as glam !!!), but phenomenal AOR/melodic hardrock ! Lou is in fine shape, what a voice that guy has ! And the songs are great. Listen to opener 'What Would It Take' and you know what I mean. Great to see there are so many people here (Luca67,aorMilwaukee, freddy de keyze. . .) who still know what pure AOR is ! The rest should listen better ! This is BRILLIANT !!!!!

From: jason (FA-Q) Date: December 6, 2003 at 1:15
Lou Gramm needs to thank his lucky stars that Robert John "Mutt" Lange actually found it in his heart to assist him in his musical edeavors. What I mean is, Lange put Foreigner on the music map by producing some of their biggest hits. With out that help Lou wouldn't have any kind of foot-hold in the music industry that would allow him to release shit music like this band has. "Mutt" lange is a music God! He can turn shit into gold, and he proved it with bands like Foreigner.

From: AOR freaky Date: December 12, 2003 at 8:04
Jason, what are you saying man ? Lou Gramm is simply one of the greatest singers EVER ! He don't need Mr. Lange, nor does the mighty Foreigner, to have success ! These guys are so talented that they would made it anyway. And this album is just as how all AOR should have to sound. Melodic, classy, great voice, nice keys, great guitars and of course : class songs ! FANTASTIC !

From: Rycheage Date: January 18, 2004 at 1:20
I must agree with jason. Lange CAN turn shit into gold, BUT Foreigner was on the map already with the first few releases. "Foreigner","Double Vision", and "Head Games" are all excellent albums on their own,BUT they really hit the heights with the release of "4". This is not the Foreigner forum but the Shadow King page. This release sucked. Considering who was in the band, they sound like 4th graders playing for a few years. Not recommended.

From: AOR freaky Date: January 19, 2004 at 5:12
I am surprised, Rycheage, you're a man of excellent taste and you don't like this masterpiece ? ! Don't understand that ! Foreigner is one of my all time faves, but this is even better than Foreigner, except their debut, which is a milestone ! But far better than their other records. This record is BRILLIANT, great production, fantastic voice by Lou,great musianship and superb songs ! 'What Would It Take' and ' Heart Of Stone' are among the best songs ever writtten ! This is RECOMMENDED !!!

From: Scandinavia Date: January 19, 2004 at 6:24
I agree that this is good but I also must admit it's strangely restrained composition-wise....It lacks balls in the long run. But overall a decent effort with great melodies. 8/10

From: AOR freaky Date: January 19, 2004 at 6:36
Scandinavia, my friend : this lacks balls ? ! What about Journey then ? This is one of the more hard-edged AOR releases ! What Would It Take is a beautiful rocker and there are more on this record, more than on any Journey record ! Right or not ? And also harder than the mighty Foreigner, aren't they ? !

From: Metal Pete Date: January 19, 2004 at 18:21
Tony was right. Played it once when it came out and haven't messed with it since. This was the beginning of the end for Viv Campbell, who would go on to much, much lesser things in Def Leppard...I like two songs on here. The slow one and one of the faster ones, but hell I can't even remember what it was. They muster a '4' rating.

From: Rycheage Date: January 19, 2004 at 23:31
Sorry AOR Freaky, this did nothing for me. Maybe I was expecting too much with the lineup but it never got going. Maybe I'll try to get it cheap and give it another spin.

From: AOR freaky Date: January 20, 2004 at 10:45
Dear Rycheage, give it another spin. We almost have the same taste. For me this is a classic record, on par with Foreigner ! Try it again ! And to Metal Pete, maybe you're more into metal, and then I can understand that you don't like this that much, although I also like metal a lot and I find this a gem ! Strange, but tastes seem to differ !

From: aorjocke Date: January 20, 2004 at 12:10
When I first heard this album I didin't think it was any special, but after a while it just grow on me...PURE CLASS! "Once Upon a Time" and "This Heart of Stone" are my favourite tracks..FANTASTIC AOR songs! It has the BIG production that every album should have.

From: Blue Charvel Date: January 20, 2004 at 13:46
God knows I tried to like this slab o' "same 'ol, same 'ol" but after listening to it several times it's just too boring for me. Nothing really stands out. It's not bad per se, it just makes me sleepy. Viv's best stuff was easily Dio, as was Lou's best with Foreigner. This is just more pasteurized process cheese food from a supergroup.

From: pablo Date: February 7, 2004 at 19:13

From: Craig.B Date: April 5, 2004 at 2:43
Starts of a corker! The first 4 tracks are absolute killers but the rest of the album totaly sux!

From: Rycheage Date: April 15, 2004 at 23:24
AOR Freaky- I gave this another try and found I actually enjoyed it. Still not what it should've been considering the lineup but enjoyable nonetheless. I'll keep it this time around.

From: Rockhead Date: April 16, 2004 at 5:25
This is a great CD!! I love just about all the tracks on it and it still sounds great today. Lou Gramm is an excellent voice and regardless of the line-up this is better than 90% of the releases of the time.

From: Big Papa K Date: June 14, 2004 at 18:21
Sounds like an album of the harder rocking Foreigner tunes. Can be found very cheaply and worth it at that price, but thats about it. 5/10

From: AOR freaky Date: June 16, 2004 at 5:32
Big Papa K : this is the best a man can get ! A CLASSIC ! The best Lou ever did, except for the debut Foreigner CD, but far better than their '4' album. And I'm a big Foreigner fan, so this means that this CD is BRILLIANT, man !

From: rocknroll Date: June 17, 2004 at 9:57
This album is like Hard Foreigner. The best song is "This Heart of Stone". When I bought this album little did I know that it was the only song that I can remember that was really good to listen too

From: manos Date: July 7, 2004 at 14:05
AORfreaky striked again!HAHA! Gosh, sometimes I wonder if he is a 15 years old or he is just trying to upset a whole forum on purpose! Trying to compare this album to Foreigners releases is BLASPHEMY! This is a moderate release from a band that it's line-up has huge potential and inevitably raises our expectations. There are a few good moments but there are spare. Musicianship is great, you can find good guitar work, excellent production but it simply lacks of consistency and good songs...6/10

From: AOR freaky Date: July 7, 2004 at 15:41
I'm only 51 years old, good Manos and this is killer stuff !!!!

From: Stitchie626 Date: July 20, 2004 at 1:53
I found this album in a bin at the local Deals store for a buck along with some no-name crap and was fascinated so I bought it to laugh at it. I thought it would suck and was going to pawn it off on some EBay sap when I was done chuckling but boy am I wrong! I'm listening to it now with a straight face and too bad for those "saps", but this is mine! What awesome musicianship. I'm glad I bought it. It is definitely worth more than that. Gramm, Turgon, Campbell and Valentine need to reform this ba

From: Bass God Date: July 27, 2004 at 10:20
This should have been a HUGE album. It never had the promotional push. Then Lou went back to his "day job" and Vivian went looking to make more money and play stadiums again. Now this CD is just a footnote in history as two super talents together for a short time then off for greener pastures. (Coverdale/Page)

From: TIM (2) Date: July 28, 2004 at 8:28
I think, Bass God, the reason this wasn't huge is because it just wasn't that good. Freddy's sure going to hate me for this, but this album's just boring. I love Foreigner as much as the next man, but there's hardly any commercial appeal to these songs. Unlike the Foreigner albums that had several blatant attempts to hit the charts this one was just straight-up melodic rock with fairly basic song arrangements. I'll still listen to Tracks 3 & 4, but skip most of the rest. 5/10.

From: Rockhead Date: July 28, 2004 at 8:46
Sorry Tim(2) I think this album has stacks of memorable songs.'What Would it Take','Don't Even Know I'm Alive','Boy'&'This Heart of Stone'are catchy, melodic and full of passion. In 'Russia' Lou Gramm puts in a tremendous performance full of emotion. The remaining are all good and i can't find a duffer. Well played, well produced-what more can you want?

From: TIM (2) Date: July 28, 2004 at 10:02
Rockhead, it's the songs that are the problem here. I wouldn't fault the production or performances, but there just aren't enough big hooks or melodies in the songs to make me want to bother playing the album again. Apart from a couple of 'good' tracks, most are just ok. And there's nothing like "Midnight Blue" or "Say You Will" or even the latter-day "Prisoner of Love". Great production, great performances, ok songs.

From: Rockhead Date: July 28, 2004 at 10:05
We'll agree to differ on this one!!

From: TIM (2) Date: July 28, 2004 at 10:19
It does seem to be one of those 'love it or hate it' type of albums...

From: AOR freaky Date: July 28, 2004 at 15:20
This is a SUPER ALBUM ! No hooks, no great songs ? ! I'm with Rockhead on this one, TIM(2) !!!!! 'What Would It Take' , 'This Heart Of Stone', boy oh boy ! CAN IT ANY BETTER THAN THAT ? ! Not for me !!!! This is BRILLIANT and head and shoulders above all things released these days, how good some items may be ! It still blows me away and I rate it higher than any record Foreigner (except their debut) ever did. And if you know that Foreigner is one of my all-time fave bands, you know everyting !

From: manos Date: August 30, 2004 at 20:18
Oh my god don't make this comparison to Foreigner's releases, I get sick! PLEASE!!!!!!

From: MikeL Date: August 30, 2004 at 20:35
Very good top to bottom. No superior songs but not a bad one on the CD. Recommend it highly.

From: Geoff Date: August 31, 2004 at 9:28
I never understood or got involved in the great debate about this album. It's not brilliant, but as far as I'm concerned it's good hard rock. 'Once upon a time' is killer melodic hard rock, 'Don't even know I'm alive' is a great ballad, 'This heart of stone' is great hard rock again, and 'Danger in the dance of love' is an awesome track. The rest is good stuff too and if you look past the names and just take it as a commercial hard rock disc, it is good stuff.

Anyone who is a Foreigner fan or has any of Lou Gramm's solo albums knows exactly how talented this man truly is. I am familiar with Vivian Campbell from his work with Dio this cd brings together two incredibly talented individuals(not to mention the rest of the band) and need I say more? This is one of my all time favorite cds. I have to say this cd has never collected dust and I still enjoy listening to Shadow King. Since this is the only release that I am aware of; this cd is worth that much

I once thought this was a very underrated album, but listening to it now and seeing that the rating is 9.30 just makes me reconsider my views on this. Its good, but it lacks good hit material. Sure some of the tracks are outstanding, track 1,2,4 and 10 are superb, but the rest is average, and Lou Gramms voice is pushed too far to sound good. Vivian Campbell guitarplaying isnt that cool, and as on many of his releases it becomes boring. I'd give it 8/10.

So many comments!! Great! Anyway, stunning melodic hard rock with some A.O.R. touches here and there just by the book!!! (I agree it sounds a bit like Foreigner, differences taken) Amazing vocals from our beloved Lou(as always), but be aware all aor lovers out there, even for you this will get you wet from start to finish! Besides the higher ammount of guitars we got big choruses and great melodies! GET IT! As it wasn't enough you can grab it for a few bucs!!

From: AOR freaky Date: September 6, 2005 at 13:23
Just listened to this one again and it still blows me away ! Absolutely BRILLIANT melodic (hard) rock ! And the great news is that Bruce Turgon is coming up with a solo CD in the same vein ! Can you believe it ? ! Bloody great ! Thanks Frontiers ! Can't wait for that release. The samples I've heard sound wonderful : like Shadow King without Lou ! It even would have been 'better' if Lou had done the vocals. Bruce sings well, but Gramm is (was) world class !

From: victordeaor Date: September 16, 2005 at 9:18

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: October 2, 2005 at 10:05
This is a Great AOR album, no sera el Inside Information pero este album es muy bueno de lo mejor de Lou Gramm, cortes de gran talla como Don't Even Know I'm Alive, What Would it Take, Danger in the Dance of Love, Once Upon a Time, This Heart of Stone, No Man's Land un par de cortes mas en plan hard rock pero el album es AOR de muy buen nivel a lo que nos tenia acostumbrado Foreigner, un disco de bajo precio adsequible en cualquier parte del mundo y por supuesto Recomendado.

From: Axe-Machine Date: November 15, 2005 at 15:28
Unknown to myself and many others is the reason why this CD is so heatedly debated. Its a bonafide classic...no questions asked. What Would It Take, Once Upon A Time, and ESPECIALLY No Man's Land are brilliant slabs of AOR. The biggest problem with this band is that the single they released was of a completely uncommercial and one of the weakest tracks on the album. Terrible waste as they should have been huge. Gramms voice is still one of my favorites. Top Notch AOR - Reccomended. 9/10.

From: caritosmatanza Date: January 31, 2006 at 21:03

From: Carlos A. Date: March 31, 2006 at 11:53
9.8/10 Saludos!!!

From: juan carlos Date: May 28, 2006 at 10:39

NI CAMPBELL NI GRAMM NECESITABAN ESTE DISCO,SIN EMBARGO UNIERON FUERZAS PARA CREAR UNA VERDADERA JOYITA.LASTIMA QUE HAYA SIDO LA UNICA.CUANDO SUCEDEN ESTAS COSAS UNO SIEMPRE SE QUEDA CON GANAS DE MAS.PERO A DISFRUTAR DE ESTE TRABAJO SOBERBIO A TODO NIVEL. COMPOSITIVAMENTE ES PERFECTO.TIENE MUCHISIMO DE FOREIGNER Y DA ALGUNA PAUTAS DE LO QUE SERIA EL GENIAL "MR.MOONLIGHT".Y LA VERSATILIDAD DE VIVIAN QUEDA DEMOSTRADA CON CRECES.CADA CANCION ES UNA PERLITA.10/10.carro_martin2000@yahoo.com.ar

Oh...MY...GOD, ARGHHH I like it...but I dont like it, the opener 'What Would It Take', really does make me cringe but I...like it. Lou Gramm is awesome (as always), and the song's have a real American flavour to them and wouldn't be out of place in an eighties flick. Can someone explain to me what it is so appealing, it's not great, not ground shattering but it's excellent to listern to. I wish there was more CD's by them, DEFO buy them...KEEP ROCKIN ALL!!!

ESTE ES UN DISCO IMPRESIONANTE. GRACIAS POR TODO, LOU GRAMM Y VIVIAN CAMPBELL. GENIALES. ES UNA ESTUPENDA CONTINUACIÓN DEL 4 O DE AGENT PROVOCATEUR. UNAS SUPERCANCIONES Y UN GRANDISIMO AOR. UN 9/10.

Wouw que tal voz, aquí Lou Gramm canta como nunca antes hizo en Foreigner, coincido con varios comentarios anteriores, este debió haber salido como Foreigner con la guitarra de Mick jones y automaticamente se hubiera convertido en un clásico,Vivian Campbell mete unos guitarrazos impresionantes; claro ya que viene del panorama más hard rock, todo el album es excelente, tiene sus partes hard rock:What would i take,Anytime, anywhere;AORon´t even...,This heart(foreigner!!),discazo de principio a fin

hmm, never heard this till a few weeks ago, got the new re-release, hmm, Heart of Stone and the first 3 are pretty good, I don't know, kinda leaves me cold a bit, will keep listening, Lou's voice is great, songs lack in my opinion.

Happened to hear the album online while surfing the net and I'm glad I did because I went straight out to buy the CD a couple days later. Kind of similar to early House Of Lords or late 80s Whitesnake, I thought. Shame they only put out the one disc.

BUEN DISCO.

Pure bliss! Turgon/Gramm magic! This is one of those "every home should have..." discs.

GREAT album, a true classic. Melodic Hard Rock? Mah...i think that this cd is pure and edged A.O.R. music. 9/10. vinfer80@tin.it

A great combination of Lou Gramm and Vivian Campbell, backed by the talented songwriter, Bruce Turgon, provided us an interesting album. While the album was slightly ruined by a couple of forgivable fillers, tracks like "Once Upon A Time" and "This Heart of Stone" are stunning, not to mention the haunting "Russia" which sends the chill to my bone. If only they got a chance to release the next album, it must be better, but I still recommend this for fans of FOREIGNER and AOR. A good release!

I sometimes think that some people born just to argue and staying opposite ''just for the show''! This album CANNOT be a Fav of everyone who loves good melodic hard rock and AOR! This is full of Brilliant melodic Hard rock tunes. Lou is fantastic revealing us a more hard option of his singing personality and gorgeous voice. Vivian gives us a blowing guitar rock experience but staying very melodic! Imagine foreign with massive hard rock guitars. Actually, this album reminds me the best times of whitesnake! I give 95/100 staying very strict!

This album is a spotty one. When it's good, it's awesome ("Once upon a time", "Don't Even Know I'm Alive", "This Heart Of Stone", "No Man's Land"), but when it's not, it's medioker ("Anytime, Anywhere", "I Want You"). All in all, this is an essential release if you love the voice of Lou Gramm. Other than that, you might as well be satisfied with Foreigner or Gramm's solo efforts. 7/10

Lou Gramm at his best not one weak track nice to hear Vivian Campbell on guitar.

Pleasant album by Lou Gramm & Viv Campbell plus Turgon and Valentine...still Lou with that amazing voice in here..a guy who has struggled with a brain problem that has been solved in its all by now thanks to the almighty...good songs such as the rocking one "Anytime,Anywhere"(their hit) plus "Once Upon a Time","Don't Even Know I'm Alive","This Heart Of Stone" & "Danger In The Dance Of God"...go for it!!!...90/100

This band is forever doomed to exist in the shadow of Foreigner due to Lou Gramm's vocal involvement, but for my money, this is better than Foreigner. Then again, I am not much of a Foreigner fan, so saying this is better than Foreigner really isn't saying all that much. In the end, this is a harmless melodic rock CD, worthy of neither glowing praise nor scalding derision. With Gramm & Campbell involved you sort of expect something royally awesome, but, uh, not so much.

From: BDrums1971 Date: February 29, 2012 at 23:56
WOW! I just can't believe you guys who don't think Lou Gramm's voice is just amazing. I literally get chills when I hear him sing on this cd. I have come to believe that Mr. Gramm is one of the best vocalists ever. And Viv's guitar playing, and the quality of songs and production makes this one of my all time favorite cd's.... and that's saying alot!!!

From: Ydol eM Date: July 30, 2014 at 12:33
A perfect example of hard aor rock. Not obtrusive, maybe for someone like me more listens are needed. Whole album is balanced with similar-quality songs that are IMO Lou Gramm solo works or the first Giant alike. Really adult oriented music. 85/100.

enjoyable album with great production, nice songs, some catchy guitar playing...but with this line-up something greater could be made, its lacks some punch, its a bit light for a supergroup like this, well take it has a kind of heavier foreigner album

Great vocals and guitars but there's nothing new in this album. Ten standard hard rock songs and that's all.
