From: javi-valencia Date: November 17, 2002 at 15:15
champions te dire que virginia wolf es uno de mis grupos favoritos,y que heartland quizas no lleguen a tanto, pero tengo que decirte que a mi me encanta este lp,al igual que el wide open, saludos amigo veo que entiendes mucho de la musica aor.

From: rob garcia Date: November 23, 2002 at 14:35
hey this is one hell of an album!probably one of his best releases to date. aor with clever lyrics and smoothn sound.....one of the best british aor bands to come out of this country in years!go buy this youll love it!!!!!!.

From: freddy de keyze Date: November 25, 2002 at 3:27
Very good CD indeed from one of Britains best AOR bands ever. Every album is a clear winner, but I'm still waiting for that classic from these guys. They have the talents to make a real classic !

From: MALLORCA´S ROCK Date: January 21, 2003 at 9:52

The big label debut, and what a debut. Up there with the top Brit AOR releases of the nineties. Not as good as Virginia Wolf , but alot better than the next 3 or 4 Heartland releases which sounded second rate compared to this one (although the last 2 have been monsters).

From: Date: January 13, 2004 at 19:40
I AGREE WITH JEZ.THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM OF HEARTLAND.THE OTHERS ARE NOT SO GOOD.

From: illimey Date: May 6, 2004 at 0:48
Heck yeah this was good. Another one of the 300 or so CDs I sold in 1991 before spending 7 months backpacking round Australia. I should've kept a few - and this could well have been one I would've kept. Should've. Would've. Didn've. Anyway, if that Ebay thingie up there is correct I won't be buying this one again in a hurry regardless of it's remembered finery. $12 [+S/H] for a used CD? Eat my shorts. Last of the big spenders I'm not!

From: AOR freaky Date: May 6, 2004 at 10:46
It's worth the money, illimey ! Chris has a unique voice. I like ALL their CD's ! Great stuff !!

From: Rycheage Date: June 9, 2004 at 22:12
This is an excellent piece of melodic rock, in my humble opinion not too far away from the likes of Dare, Strangeways and FM, as being one of the best UK product to be produced in this genre/style. To this day, this is the pick of all the Heartland albums. 'Wide Open' is a close second.

From: graces Date: July 2, 2004 at 0:23
GOOD ALBUM

From: TIM (2) Date: July 7, 2004 at 9:21
High quality British AOR, very smooth and not a million miles from Dare's classic debut. 'Real World' is the highlight, with probably 6 of the remaining 9 tracks being ballads of some sort, but if you like Darren Wharton's (Dare) voice you should like Chris Ousey's too. 'Fight Fire with Fire' is an awesome ballad. 9/10.

From: rocketron Date: July 7, 2004 at 9:31
In truth, none of Heartlands subsequent albums have come anywhere near this superb debut.

From: K.K. Poland Date: July 10, 2004 at 7:57
YEAH, FANTASTIC ALBUM, CARRIE ANN IS A AMAZING TRACK!! œwietny album, polecam!!

From: BWH'Indonesia' Date: August 20, 2004 at 9:57
Superb and sophisticated AOR, very rockmantic. Chris' voice is great, a good comparison to Eric Martin or Mark Free, really fits the whole songs. A kind of music that makes me flying high.

From: Wotty Date: August 20, 2004 at 10:22
To BWH'Indonesia' Very true, excellent vocal from Chris on a top album.

From: AOR freaky Date: August 20, 2004 at 15:31
Wotty : you're a wise man with a great taste ! This is indeed class, like all Heartland albums !

From: Geoff Date: August 22, 2004 at 5:39
Heartland really lost me along the way with an abundance of same-ish second rate sounding AOR releases. Not bad by any means and overall I can probably pick 3 absolute gem songs from the rest of thier albums, but they really did lose my interest severely. This, however, is just a great AOR album and worth the rest of thier collection easy! 'Carrie-Ann' is wonderful but my absolute favourite Heartland song of all is the amazing 'Real world'. Oh how I love that song... Great CD!!!

From: Jonny_B Date: September 9, 2004 at 21:51
I've listened to Heartland's later material (all released under Escape Music) and I'm still trying to figure out why Escape Music still haven't made any real attempt to go after a reissue of their debut and complete their catalog.

From: Wotty Date: September 10, 2004 at 19:52
To Jonny-B.I missed your post on this and I cant disagree with you.It is a bit of a mystery...

From: Rafo Phoenix Date: February 18, 2005 at 0:21
mmmmm The best album of the year, pure class and category, Que pasa estamos ante el mejor album del 91, para el que escribe de lo mejor que escuchado y eso que este año hubieron grandes albums. Asi que quiero ver mas comentarios.

From: z4roxx Date: February 18, 2005 at 14:44
By far their best cd and IMO one of my fave in english aor panorama. That's a true example how an aor cd can be played in an original and personal way...Maybe they don't have super killer tunes but...songs are all amazing.Highly recommended, avoid all the other cd's from this band, that one is unique and awesome!9.5/10.

From: Max Date: March 19, 2005 at 15:11
z4roxx, how do you have the balls to say to avoid the other CDs from this band? All their CDs are top notch, especially their last 2. Fantastic AOR.

From: AOR freaky Date: March 19, 2005 at 16:50
I agree 100% with Max here ! All their CD's are great and writing that you should avoid 'em is a crime, z4roxx (one of these laughing from time to time with this man !). My time to laugh now !

From: z4roxx Date: March 20, 2005 at 13:02
ahaha!I have the balls to say that this one is awesome, the second one is good and the others are booooooriiiing!!!!!!If you want I can repeat this thing other 10,000 times...sorry man but this is my point of view about this band.

From: TIM (2) Date: March 20, 2005 at 14:09
z4roxx, I pretty much agree with you (although I liked Heartland III as well) but don't let this stop you checking out their new album 'Move On' as the soundbytes sound killer...

From: z4roxx Date: March 20, 2005 at 14:20
Tim(2),I think their last cd will not play never as the debut...BTW I'll try to listen to somethin'about it,thanks!

From: rocky Date: April 14, 2005 at 9:59
what can be said about this one that hasn`t been said already...?????GET IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: September 9, 2005 at 7:58
Amazing!! A fresh and easy listening sound which is way much more catchy than the previously mentioned 'Virginia Wolf'. Certainly in the 80's they had more keys but lack of a happy sound wich this effort has. Great production and our beloved Chris sounds STUNNING!! Probably a couple of fillers but so far: their most consistent. If you can find it, don't miss it!

From: ArnoldLancelot Date: September 9, 2005 at 8:01
...by the way when I say 'a happy sound' I don't mean pop influences; they're pure early 90's A.O.R.

From: Axe-Machine Date: December 19, 2005 at 19:18
Great album...immense from start to finish. Their second album Wide Open also has some great moments and is worth a listen, but unfortunately once Gary Sharpe left the band, it's quality went with him as although Chris has a great voice they have only come up with enough great songs to make up one album since as opposed to the millions that they have come out with. Bridge of Fools was in my opinion the last OK album this band made. This album however is classic - an AOR masterpiece for the ages!

From: PAUL Date: February 7, 2006 at 12:21
The fans of the classic 'into the streets' (BLVD) will love the bebut of HEARTLAND. It's about a release in the same high standard. I like a lot VIRGINIA WOLF but this is far better IMO. I dare to say one the 20 best Btitish AOR albums of all time! I missed to add...Chris has THE voice!

From: coverdale14 Date: January 22, 2007 at 13:39
WHAT A GEM, THIS HEARTLAND CD , A PERFECT AOR, I LIKE THIS ONE MORE THAN VIRGINIA WOLF, REAL WORLD, WHAT A PERFECT AOR SONG. CARRIE ANN, NO WORDS, THE BALLAD PAPER HEART KILLS!!!!! M. A. S. T. E. R P. I. E. C. E.

From: lost-soul Date: August 19, 2007 at 8:09
What can someone say about this Masterpiece??? Chris Ousey prooves in this cd he's one of the best AOR vocalists. Most of the songs are outstanding and the production is really good as well. Unfortunately after Gary Sharpe's departure from the band, Heartland didn't manage to make even one cd close to this eternal classic. This is a must-have cd for any AOR fan. 98/100

From: Melodic Man Date: September 29, 2007 at 7:56
AOR in perfection ! What a voice ! i like the second one too. After that it goes downhill ! 95\100

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: February 2, 2008 at 19:23
Yesterday February 1st. i have posted the comment about this album... well i´ll do it again in ENGLISH right??. Ok, This is a great album. Of course, in the VIRGINIA WOLF vein, but with some FOREIGNER influences i think, and a much softer style than the Virginia´s records with classic tracks as "Real World", The emotive "Carry Ann" and the Brillant "Teach You To Dream", and we have a very efective vocal performance by Chris Ousey... a must Have guys!!

From: george_the_jack Date: May 15, 2008 at 10:08
This voice, the voice of him, hmmmm the VOICE, what voice! Alright!!!!!!! I don't have the words! Guys, here we have to do with one of the BEST 5 VOICES OF ROCK of all time! This isn't a lie or my point of view! Try this and the 2 Virginia Wolf's albums and come here to have a conversation! 95/100! Not only a must have!

From: hevi Date: September 27, 2009 at 8:16
sorry,this was a big dissapointment to me,maybe i expected too much,this isn´t come even near to dare`s first one.6 out of 10.

From: DonDefo Date: December 30, 2010 at 18:27
CARRIE ANN!!

From: rick kerch vzla Date: January 28, 2011 at 21:26
Chris Ousey is definetely a great singer but also an underrated one,i don't understand how he has been put aside to AOR projects where you can see list of singers that IMO are less than him and are invited to participate in such projects...anyway,Heartland is a band he put after the disband of another awesome band that he led named Virginia Wolf and more or less conserved the same line(probably Heartland is more solid in sound)..this debut is packed with goodie songs all over..."Real World"(a killer song) & "Promises" are my fave ones in here, then another hot shots are "Carrie Ann","Fight Fire With Fire"(nice ballad),"Walking On Ice" & "Paradise"...in general lines a very fine release...94/100

From: MHR Date: March 30, 2011 at 14:23
Great work

From: edwithmj Date: September 15, 2011 at 12:51
Monster AOR debut by Heartland. Chris Ousey has a unique gravelly voice and coupled with the hard hitting drums, bass and guitar there are loads of melodic tracks here. Teach You To Dream, Carrie Ann, Fight Fire With Fire and Paper Heart are my favourites here.

From: 123charpenay Date: September 11, 2014 at 12:27
pure magic a o r.their best record for sure.this record is a masterpiece of a o r.all songs are magic ,are irressistibles.all serious fans of a o r have this jewel in their collection.after this fantastic debut album heartland deliver us a very boring and very repetitive poor a o r (except III a super record).no bonus track for the japan import (very rare always at a crazy high price on ebay).
