Solid but uneventful AOR.

Good songs but poor production, although these are basic 8 track demos, so they should be forgiven for that. Re-released on the Escape label in '99.

From: Rycheage Date: July 20, 2003 at 17:16
The album is comprised of all the demo's that were to go towards the band's second album and therefore comprises the line up of the debut album. That's was before the band were resurrected with Steve Morris joining the great Chris Ousey. There are some great songs on this over-looked album. They are only marginally let down by the fact the album was never fully developed and lacks that production. I guess that will always be Polygram's loss.

From: John Date: September 4, 2003 at 12:32
Not necessarily sing-along choruses, but the songs are catchy and memorable. 7/10.

From: TIM (2) Date: July 7, 2004 at 9:32
Real high quality set of demos making up their second release. Actually sounds better than some of their post-'Heartland 3' albums even as a set of demos, but that says more about the poor production on those albums than the sound of this one. 'A Town Called Pride' is the standout, but there's barely a filler on here. 8.5/10.

WOW What a band Great singer, good sound, if these are demo's WOW, listern to Motley Crue's demo's on the Doctor Feel Good Album they sound crap. This band are very underater they sound like 80's pop fused with rock, me like, me like, Good Stuff.

HEARTLAND rulezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

From: PAUL Date: February 7, 2006 at 12:33
Not as good as the previous but worth to have in your collection if you like quality AOR. 'give me a reason' is a keyboard-driven masterpiece and 'losing to love' one of my fav ballads.

Finally got this one, excellent melodick hard rock/aor in their same vein. After the debut I think it’s their best release.9/10.

From: Melodic Man Date: September 29, 2007 at 7:58
For me,this is the second best Album from Heartland. Yes,the production is not the best but the songs are great ! 90\100

From: PODEROSO YIRO Date: February 2, 2008 at 19:28
A very great album, as solid as the previous one but with less efectivity i guess, but anyway is a great great album... by the way, i´m one of those who thinks that after their 2 first albums, HEARTLAND were losing the initial spark and magic that they used to display in the early years

Great AOR,amazing songs with the powerful voice fo Chris Oussey, nice and catchy are Give me a reason,Whenever you want me,Wide open;a real gem for die hard AOR lovers;the first 2 albums from Heartland are awesome, really a must have...9/10.

From: rick kerch vzla Date: May 3, 2010 at 16:40
Solid album with a great vocalist (Mr Chris Oussey from Virginia Wolf fame)..if you want a reference,Eric Martin (Mr Big) is more or less Oussey's tone of voice.."Give Me A Reason" opens the album perfectly the we have greatness such as "Wide Open"(one of my faves),"Indian Ground"(nice ballad),"When I'm With You"(killer ballad and definetely a highlight of the album),"Try Me","Burning The Bridges"(another fave)and "Turning My Heart Right Over"..in general lines a very round album, enjoyable and with a great but somehow underrated singer.95/100

Real AOR need to be like this!

From: edwithmj Date: April 16, 2013 at 17:05
A decent follow up but lacking what made the debut special such as strong hooks and catchy choruses. Despite that, there are some good songs here such as Wide Open and Running on Empty.

From: 123charpenay Date: April 17, 2013 at 12:37
agree with others comments.great and solid a o r but not at the same level than their first extraordinary record.the discography of heartland is a collection of albums like this.great but nothing special and with time boring.i have the feeling to listen always the same songs always the same album.always decent but not more.(except "III" and "move on"
