I'm not sure whether to agree or disagree with the previous posting because I 'no speaka da Spanish', so I'll just say this--good effort from the band with some above average songs.

From: Gary Boole Date: July 22, 2001 at 21:34
Can anyone here speak Spanish and know what Charlie said haha. Anyway this is a great album. Steve Perry's vocals have neve sounded better. 'Its Just The Rain' is my favorite but there is not a bad song on this album. This is a must have album for any Journey fan.

From: james Date: October 16, 2001 at 13:50
I thought this was a sub-par effort. the songs didn't grab me and I soon forgot about the album. I drag it out once on a while but the Arival cd is much better

From: koogles Date: January 2, 2002 at 16:42
I thought this CD was a triumphant tour de force. I had also been waiting 10 years for new Journey at the time of its release. People complain this CD is too ballad-heavy. I think those people probably don't have the Japanese pressing that includes 'I Can See It In Your Eyes'. Other hard rockin' moments: 'Can't Tame The Lion', 'Message of Love', 'Forever in Blue', 'Castles Burning', 'One More' and 'Colors of the Spirit'. That's about half the album! I don't care what anyone says: I love this CD!

From: Sandman Date: January 27, 2002 at 13:29
I'm a spanish fan of Journey since I have 12 years, but when I heard 'Still She cries' or 'One More' I say Uauuu. Journey Forever. Gracias Steve, Neal y Jonathan.

Hey I know what Charlie said (in spanish) and believe me it's truly a nasty comment regarding this release. As harsh as his statement was I can't disagree with him too much. This is my least favourite Journey c.d.Their are too many boring songs on this c.d. namely ' It's Just The Rain','Don't Be Down On Me Baby','When I Think Of You','Castles Burning','Easy To Fall',' Forever In Blue' & 'One More'.The best songs on this are 'Still She Cries'(classic journey),'Colours Of The Spirit'(this song could

Thanks for the tip about 'I can see...', koogles. It's a great rocker! Can't understand why it wasn't on the American version. Yet, at the same time, I realize Japanese pressings always get the extra songs.

From: Date: February 16, 2003 at 17:36
Classic line-up ... some very good songs. Some favorites are: Colors of the Spirit, It's Just The Rain, and Trial by Fire. Thos songs have a great feeling and mood to them ... very soulful!

From: Gar Date: January 3, 2004 at 18:57
Not exactly the comeback album I was hoping for, though it is pretty good overall. In fact, the album starts off particularly strong for the first 4 or 5 songs. After that it sinks into a dizzying blur of ballads. Don't get me wrong, Journey are the masters of the power ballad but this release just has too many and they're all pretty much the same('Arrival' suffers for the same reason). This disc could have been a lot worse. At least they stick to their classic sound. But a classic Journey album

There's a hidden track on here...I understand why it's hidden...Sounds like a UB40 track...

From: Axe Machine Date: November 29, 2004 at 9:43
This is certainly a fair album, but would have sounded much better with Augeri on it. Perrys vocals are so low and completely gone by the time this record got released, no wonder he doesnt tour, he'd never reach the notes he used to hit. Disappointing. 6.5/10

From: Propane Date: December 2, 2004 at 20:50
Yngwie can call his Trial by fire. With this particular one, Journey cannot. Ok, but falls way short of previous works.

From: Lance Date: December 2, 2004 at 23:07
I'm a big Journey fan, but there are a lot of songs on here like 'Can't Tame the Lion' I just skip right through. Yes, Steve has lost the range displayed on 'La-Do-Da', 'Patiently' and other early Journey songs, but still sounds great here. 'Still She Cries' would be my fave and I like 'Message of Love' and 'Easy To Fall' as well. I saw Journey with Augeri in September and they still rock!

From: Geoff Date: February 10, 2005 at 4:25
I ended up with this one too as a cheapie and again, it didn't make me think any better of Journey, but f*ck me with a candle if 'If he should break your heart' is not a melodic giant of a song. Yes, I don't like the album as a whole (Though there are enough decent songs), but that one track is nothing short of sensational.

From: AORmaniac Date: February 17, 2005 at 23:05
Very good melodic rock/AOR album which closes the Perry era of the band. Fresh sound, good rockers and fantastic ballads!!! Perry is a hell of a singer... too bad that he is not back in the band. If you like Journey then you're gonna like this album too... Not the best album of the band but surely a very good one!

From: Rockhead Date: March 4, 2005 at 6:08
Steve Perry WAS the vocie of Journey-Trial by Fire was pretty bland. Steve Augeri Rocks!! No Augeri-No Journey. He fills Perry's shoes more than adequetly and the live DVD shows how much fun the band are having-role on the next CD

bonnet - i suggest you check out 'Arrival'(better disc than this one by far) or as Rockhead suggests the mega live DVD before making a comment like that, as this will disprove your theory straight away. Perry was a magnificent vocalist and i for one would love to still have him in the band. He ain't, so as with some others, get over it. Augeri is a fantastic replacement - be thankful they are still making the music they are.

I have ALL Journey albums,of course love 'Departure', 'Raised on radio' etc, but this one is their BEST. This is what AOR should be. Perfect songs, awesome performances, a million bucks production.Steve Perry never sound better,Schon sound is amaizing (ala Hardline era)and J. Cain shines here. YOU MUST HAVE THIS ALBUM. I never rate an album because is a matter of taste, but let me give this 10/10. Amigo Hispanoparlante, sere breve:COMPRA ESTE DISCO,GRABATELO,BAJATELO,lo que sea, DEBES TENERLO.

Another wonder. this is PERFECTION. Journey, of course, in it's best Album ever. these were the best 4 euros that I ever paid, thanks eBAY! my favourite 'It's just the rain'....GOD...hard to describe...at least in english esto es dulzura, elegancia, pontela en una tarde lluviosa, con la novia, apaga la luz y veras...! All the CD is perfect. no sobra ni un puto tema. El final del disco te sorprendera...solo imaginate que estas en la playa de la portada, gorro playero y sorbete en mano...!

From: Rycheage Date: September 30, 2007 at 18:36
Some really good songs ('When You Love A Woman', 'Message Of Love' and 'If He Should Break Your Heart') and some decent songs ('Still She Cries', 'When I Think Of You') and the rest are filler. Now that's alot of filler. It's an OK album and is one hell of a comeback but probably could have done with some better song choices.

From: ferstyx Date: April 1, 2008 at 20:22
When I Think Of You, i love this song. But for my taste too much ballads. In another point, for the first time, Journey in South America (Chile), but what happen with Argentina, Brasil, Peru, etc?. Is a shame, sorry for my english.

From: Wachen Date: April 8, 2008 at 11:39
This is the highly underrated comeback album with the classic-era Journey. Apart from the boring "Don't be down on me baby" and "Easy to fall" this is a great disc with edgy rockers ("One more", "Castles burning") AOR heaven ("If he should break your heart", "Forever in blue", "Message of love") and heartfelt ballads ("When you love a woman", "Still she cries", "It's just the rain"). Overall a really good CD! And Perry shines with his uncomparable emotional voice!

From: hair metal again Date: August 13, 2009 at 7:17
this was abig surprise.i mean it is fantastic melodic rock music which flows inside you and touches your soul.wow !!the band is in excellent condition and the songwriting excellent.kevin shirley in production gets the job done and a masterpiece is born.listen to "if he should break your heart" and "when ithink of you" perfection.one of their best for sure and essential for everyone

From: rick kerch vzla Date: April 25, 2011 at 15:13
This was the last album with Perry on vocals...more mellow stuff than any other thing....whether strong or not is still an enjoyable album as whatever the band has done with Steve Perry means quality...apart from the mega wonderful ballad "When You Love A Woman" there are some other goodies such as "Message Of Love","If He Should Break Your Heart","Forever In Blue","Colors Of The Spirit" & "Can't Tame The Lion"...92/100

From: Eric3 Date: March 9, 2016 at 22:15
Man...I definitely agree with the comments that say there are too many ballads on this album. And the thing is, some of them are pretty good! "When You Love A Woman" is a Journey classic, and the title track exudes feeling during the chorus. For the uptempo tracks, "Message of Love" gets this album off to a GREAT start, while "Forever in Blue" might be one of the most underrated Journey songs ever...I can never get it out of my head! But after that track, the album just becomes so...skip-worthy. It would have made a great EP with the first five or six songs or so!
