| This is a fantastic release the first featuring John Elfante who gave the band a more mainstream AOR sound. Play the game, play on, chasing shadows are all excellent melodic rock Gems. This was a great forerunner to the totally superb Drastic Measures

| I always liked the more aor side of Kansas and was pleased to hear that they had a few albums that were almost all aor tracks. This being one of them. Having said that, most of the songs seem to lack energy, outside of "Play The Game Tonight". 5/10

| Beside "Dust In The Wind", "Borderline" is Kansas' song that I heard first in my early teenage. Not like "Dust", "Borderline" soon hypnotized me. I didnt even know that they were a prog rock band. Then I started to love prog because of them. But my greatest excitement is when I'm listening to their AOR/melodic albums, especially those John Elefante era, but I also love Steve Walsh. He could create great AOR songs in Street era, and he did a great job in Power album.

| AOR for sure & hardly Kansas of the past. This was Kansas "Point Of NO Return album, literally. The 80's morphed every 70's band, which may not be bad depending on your point of view. But, for Kansas purists, the bands heyday was "Dust in the Wind".

| This is more oriented to AOR not so progressive like the first kansas.I PREFER THE VOICE OF wALSH ,here Elefante try to sing like Walsh but sound forced.Steve Morse is a virtuoso with technic and speed ,but I prefer the style of Livgren.THIS RECORD IS ONLY FOR FANS OF kANSAS.

| This a fantastic release, one of my favs all time (and I am a headbanger). Kansas is not Kansas without Kerry Livgren or John Elfante...many will disagree but they have never had the success they did then without those two. I am a bit confused on why there music would be termed prog rock more like AOR. This album and Drastic Measures are by far the most accomplished albums they have ever put out. 9.5/10

| This is one killer album. It was one of my first in my collection and it absolutely is a must have disc if you can find it. Kansas was best with Livgren and Elfante who have gone on to put out many solo albums and John And Dino Elfante now have their own label called Pakaderm Records. The new Kansas don't hold a candle to this Kansas. Drastic Measures and this album are instant classics. This one will ALWAYS be in my collection. 95/100

| By the post-Punk '80s, highly-composed '70s Prog was extremely outdated, so the mantra became "Adapt or die." This album was Kansas' effort to do just that, and although the strict 4/4 beats made the diehard Wheatheads turn up their noses, it largely succeeds. Tired of being a mouthpiece for Livgren's subtle Born Again preaching, Steve Walsh hit the bricks, leaving replacement Jon Elefante to dutifully spread Kerry's Word. But he sings great, and sounds enough like Walsh that casual listeners wouldn't know a change had even been made.Overall the sound is a polished '80s adult AOR, but with a tinge of proggie nudges here and there, including the signature Kansas violin. But strong compositions save it from coming off as just heavy Progsters gone slumming. Smooth choruses and horns on "Diamonds and Pearls" recall Chicago from the same period. Very good album if you like mid-'80s Foreigner with a dose of West Coast harmonizing and the kind of safe rockin' offered by the CCM hordes. 85/100

Great CCM Prog Rock/AOR! Livgren, Elefante, Hope!!!  Play The Game Tonight(A1), Fair Exchange, Chasing Shadows, Face It, Play On, Crossfire(A1) one of my fav Kansas albums especially for its lyrics, 90/100.
