Under the Blade set the measuring stick for the band. Stay Hungary was 'good'. This is just crap. Come out(the song) is fair & Chrool to your Scuel is good, why on earth would you buy this for two so-so tracks?! PAss on this & pick up the Grst Hts compilation from ATLANTIC RECORDS, which by the way is the only thing they did 'right' with this band. DEE love you man, but I have to be honest. 4.5 just because it's Twisted. SIXXSWINE

Not being a Twisted Sister fan I took a chance and purchased their 'love is for suckers' CD. Wow! What a great CD. Ran across a vinyl copy of 'Come out and play' so I bought it. Wow! What a HORRIBLE record! No hooks, weak guitars, terrible songs! First 3 cuts are o.k. but it goes down hill from there. Go buy 'love is for suckers' but steer clear of this turkey!

Solid album, but the songwriting slips significantly from the previous two. Still, I Believe in You and King of the Fools are great. On the following album the band turns to crap.

Listen you had to be there in 85. These guys were SSOOO close to Motley Crue big at the time but the video for 'Leader Of The Pack' just killed them. I'm talking BURIED them. I still listen to this sometimes and you can't tell me it's any worse than 950f the hard rock in 1985. BUT for Twisted yeah I agree not anywhere near up to par with 'Stay Hungry' & 'Under The Blade'. Interesting to listen to it now though after seeing the VH1 Behind The Music and what they thought of this album.

i must be dreaming! So many negative comments on this album! I can't understand why. Good songs, between Stay hungry and Love is for suckers. Just a good, very good rock album. I love it 9/10

Alot of people misjudge this album because of where TS was when they realsed this. They went more towards the lighter,humourous side with this one. If you just judge it as a rock n roll album and not a TS album, it's pretty good.

Trying to follow up to Stay Hungry must have been like AC/DC trying to follow up to Back in Black (on a smaller scale of course). I think Love Is For Suckers is a much better album and sounded like the band knew where they were going (too bad it flopped). The video for Hot Love ROCKED (I can still see that chick washing her car). This album just sounds like they didn't know what direction they wanted to go in. The title track (especially the beginning), and King of the Fools are good tracks.

Blue Tequila- Stay Hungry was no Back in Black. Rarely in rock-n-roll can you pinpiont the exact moment of a band's demise. For TS it was the moment 'Leader of the Pack' was suggested as a cover. Face it, these goofs were never much to begin with. They got lucky and phucked themselves with this crappy record. Now they are slated for a summer 2003 tour? Do we really need to relive Twisted Sister? What's next? Beau Nasty together again? One night only: Blackfish! Sorry, no thanks.

well, i really like this album, my favorite tracks are come out and play, the fire still burns, i believe in you and out on the streets (what a great song!) . the others are just average. it was very hard to follow up to stay hungry, looks as if being famous ruined their career. they didn't know what to do, get heavier or poppier.

While I totally did this release, with the exception of Leader Of The Pack, I thought this was the release where they started to lose their edge. The songs were great, but, there was something missing that I can't quite put my finger on.

Not everything on this album is good, but the title song - MY GOD!!! What an incredible metal banger! The energy, the speed! Canīt get enough of it! Twisted Sisterīs heaviest song along with What You Donīt Know. Almost worth the price alone.

Leader of the pack as a single was a terrible choice, but they had already done this song years before on Ruff Cuts. Most of this album is pretty good. The title track, I beleive in rock and roll and Kill or be killed are some of their heaviest songs. Out on the streets is a song I have always loved.

Some of their heaviest stuff together with some of their poppyest stuff. Come Out And Play, Kill Or Be Killed, You Want What We Got rock, but Be Cruel To Your Scuel, The Leader Of The Pack? What were they thinking? Overproduced and by now they were looking a bit like clowns with the make up and outfit changes. Had they gone down a heavier path and looked a bit more like they did on TCSRNR without makeup, they may have continued to be a power. hindsight...

The reviewer 'trickly taylor' is such a horses ass,He commented on someones opinion and he totally didnt understand somethin that was right in front of his face and he still said something stupid which along with his writing skills and spelling that he didnt get much of an education because his reviews on this site are shitty and hopefully he will get somewhere in life but an asswipe like him will end up in the gutter.

SMF- Try writing the post BEFORE you sniff the glue. I do nothing more than tell it like it is, and on more than a few occasions it has rubbed the HARMONY faithful the wrong way. Once again, NOT EVERY BAND IS EXCELLENT! SOME OF THEM SUCK! Twisted Sister's Come Out and Play was a career phucking disaster. Even they admit it! Now, back to the glue with you!

I agree with the above comments by Trick Taylor. Too many bad albums get great reviews on the site. Just because it is melodic, does not mean it's good. This album of course was one of the biggest disasters to follow up a blockbuster album. Starts off good with the title track, but the awful cover of 'Leader Of The Pack' and 'Be Cruel To Your School' mask how bad the rest of these tunes are. Metal aimed at ten year olds. 3/10

Not a bad album, but not an album they should have done at that moment. Too massive production from Scorpions-producer Dierks. Twisted Sister had made themselves knowns as rockers, with heavy sound. This was too polished. Good album, but not good TS-album. Too much changes. 7/10.

I absolutely love the tracks on this album except for 'Leader of the Pack' and 'Be Cruel to your School'. Favs are Come out and Play, The Fire Still Burns(which they still do live), and I believe in You. I saw them on this tour in 86`(Dokken was the opening act), and it was HELL of a show! They had a junk yard scene, Jay Jay popped out of the trunk of a car, and AJ dove into his kit. Dee even admitted on stage that the songs would have all the 'Flash' in their live performance on stage. I wish f

I also saw them on this tour w/Dokken at Raido City Music Hall and it was more of a show then a concert. Still the songs on this record are not as heavy and hard as there other ones, but a bands first record after there brakeout one is never looked at as good because it's not a carbon copy of 'Stay Hungry ' and people can't handle it. Still a great album.

I have all of the TS albums and I return to this one more often than not. I like almost every song. Better production and pretty good songs especially the title track, King of the fools, fire still burns etc. Didn't care much for Leader of the pack but in my humble opion the rest rocks.

So what if they covered Leader of the pack? It was blatantly done tongue in cheek and holds its own on this album. I can find no fault with this or any other TS album as they all have their own merits. Must say though that the list of performers printed above is missing at least two very famous names,Alice Cooper & Billy Joel both appeared on this album!

There are 3-4 very weak songs on this album, not weak per say, but this does bear the name 'Twisted Sister', and Twisted Sister is definitely NOT a pop-act! This is not what the band wanted, these songs were hand picked by the record company, so that TS would reach a broader audience through airplay. And it's a petty really, because if you substituted these awfull songs, the album would have a diferent expression all together!

A bit overproduced, slick, clean and without the heaviness the songs needed. The vocals are very loud and the guitars sound thin. Their big budget release, which didn't get the attention they and the record company hoped for, I guess. I did however LOVE this when it was released. Played it to death! This album touches both ends of the spectra - some extremely hit-oriented songs, and some of the heaviest metal songs they recorded. All out rockers like Kill Or Be Killed, the title track and the excellent The Fire Still Burns, works great, while the cover of Leader of The Pack is not only unnecessary, it's hideous. My fav tracks: Out On The Streets, Fire Still Burns, Lookin' Out For #1 and Kill Or Be Killed. Not their best, still an excellent release due to some really good songs.

this album i think is good not great and they may even have been running out of ideas at this point there also was rumblings in the band the title track begining was a complete rip off of a scene from the warriora movie (though not a bad song)and leader of the pack and be chrool to your scuel was average but there were some fine moments here still you want what we got,i beleive in rock and roll,the fire still burns,i beleive in you and king of fools when you listen to this they sound a bit lost maybe inspired by outside influences never the less it's still a very decent album

this one hasn received good reviews ,but in my book is pretty good,solid heavy rock release.dieter dierks in production achieves a raw n heavy but also polished sound.best songs are "looking for #1","i believe in you" and "you want what we got".the whole is enjoyable ,but nothin blowminding

Time to expand on my previous comment. This is easily one of the most boring albums to which I've ever listened. Come Out and Play is a hookless, boring opener with repetitive vocals and weak guitars. Leader of the Pack reminds me of Then She Kissed Me by Kiss and that certainly is not a good thing. The original is bad enough but to hear Snider's vocals on this almost makes my ears bleed; just horrid. I can't say You Want What We Got is the "best" song on the album as that implies it actually has some merit which it doesn't. It would have a decent guitar riff if I could actually hear it. The Fire Still Burns doesn't fit with Snider's vocals at all, otherwise it's tolerable. Be Chrool to Your Scuel is a bizarre song in the vein of School's Out by Alice Cooper which is patently intended as Cooper provides backing vocals on this. The song again has very weak guitars, a horrible saxophone solo (ugh, just remembering it makes me want to vomit) and Cooper's vocals don't help at all...

...and it seems to glorify bad behaviour at school in a comical way (why a song was needed about this I don't know). I Believe in You is another one I can abrely stand to remember; it is a repulsive semi-ballad containing what might be the worst backing vocals ever. I'm thankful that I can't remember how the rest of the songs on this glam metal travesty go, obviously because I turn it off before I get to the last four songs. My complaints are summarized thus: I can hardly hear the guitars and the band has two guitarists, what happened to them?; the vocals, lyrics and lyrical themes are horrendous; Leader of the Pack; the saxophone solo on Be Chrool to Your Scuel (come to think of it why are the words intentionally misspelt? Did they think it would make the song funnier?) One of the worst albums on this site by far.

According to Dee Snider's book (which, unlike a lot of celebrity memoirs, is actually pretty good), Come Out And Play was Dee's attempt to take metal to a mainstream pop audience, or maybe the other bway around. He wanted Come Out And Play to have a little something for everyone, and fully acknowledged that it was a failure, and misguided in its intent. As for "Be Chrool To Your Scuel," well, lots of metal bands referred to their fans as "kids," but by 1985, just like Kiss circa Dynasty, Twisted Sister had become a cartoon band who appealed, literally, to children. The biker-metal bar-band of the first two albums was gone. And if you think this album is bad, have you heard Love Is For Suckers?

Speculation has been that this album had the wrong songs as singles/videos. While Leader was not a perfect cover song, if not released as a single, might have been ok. Chrool was actually a rather rocking song in the similar style as Smokin' in the boys room but here is likely what went wrong. MJ's huge Thriller music video, also with plenty zombies, was played on daily basis for several years, but then Chrool was banned by MTV on the grounds that it was offensive. What a joke. I think this is what happened. Dee was brave/naive enuff to rightfully somewhat ridicule Tipper Gore of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) at the hearing on the 15th of Sep, 1985 very close to the important follow-up album release to very successful Stay Hungry.

By the 9th of Nov when Come out and play finally was released, a vengeful Tipper with powerful connections had very probably "arranged" for Atlantic and MTV no longer to prioritize TS, and the PMRC was also behind the totally unnecessary ban of harmless video to Chrool. That video could have somewhat saved the album, but since banned, the interest and momentum for the album was lost. The band did not even get money to produce a video for MTV for the last single "You Want What We Got". Maybe it was all luck, or maybe the other acts that were also addressed on that PMRC hearing were not cowards but understood that their careers were on the line, and therefore never backed Snider. Despite this and poor sales, I think the sound is fine, great drum sound, and the playing and vocals are top notch. All TS albums are pretty good and have their killer songs. Lookin' out for #1 is one of the better tracks.

An interesting theory, Sion, but I don't buy it. For one thing, Dee Snider himself attributed the album's failure to a combination of overexposure and his own lack of focus as a songwriter, trying to make an album that was all things to all people instead of concentrating on what Twisted Sister did best. Not saying the PMRC didn't have an effect as well, because in '85 and really up until Cinderella and especially Bon Jovi came out in the late summer of '86, MTV was backing off of metal and anything else that might be "controversial" due to the overly conservative climate and extra scrutiny (and bad publicity) the whole episode was bringing. No great conspiracy, just a business trying to adapt to current conditions, however misguidedly.

Each to his own, but I think Simon was spot on! Upsetting the power is no conspiracy, it will have an impact. There were some single candidates on this album, but when not played on MTV, sales will tank. You have to remember that the videos for Stay Hungry were played extensively, more or less daily. Dee can write his thoughts many years later in a book, but it's still a fact they went from mainstays on MTV to no longer played, and fewer videos with each album did not help. I normally don't comment other reviewers, but Simon seems well-informed, thanks for great info.
